Geographic Distribution of Representation Elections Held in Cases Closed, Fiscal Year 2009

p. 133. 15 columns. Top heading level has two spanner headings: "Number of elections in which representation rights were won by unions" over columns 2-5 and "Valid votes cast for unions" over columns 9-12; all other headings are tall single headings repeated down both levels. The crop is cut off at the bottom: the last printed row is Massachusetts, and the New England division (and its subtotal) continues onto the next page. The caption identifies this as "Page 1 of 3" of the table. The stub heading carries a raised 1 ("Division and State^1"), but no footnote text is printed on this crop; it presumably appears on the last page of the table. In the column-5 heading the typesetter broke "unions" across lines, leaving a lone "s" on its own line ("Other local union / s"); transcribed as "Other local unions". Likewise "represent-ative" (col 6) and "represent-ation" (col 14) are rejoined. "AFL-CIO" is printed with an en dash (AFL–CIO) in both heading levels; kept as printed. No internal inconsistencies found: every division subtotal row equals the sum of its member states, and in each row the "Total" won/votes columns equal their three components, across all columns.

p. 134. Crop is page 2 of 3 of Table 15A, so the body continues a table begun on the previous page: the "New England" subtotal row here follows only the tail of that division's states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts etc. are on page 1), and the page breaks off after "North Dakota" in the West North Central division, whose subtotal line is on page 3. The stub heading carries a superscript footnote marker 1 ("Division and State^1"), but no footnote text is printed inside this crop, so `footnotes` is empty. In the heading band the fourth sub-column of the elections panel is typeset as "Other local union" with a stray "s" dropped to its own line; I joined it to "Other local unions" to match the identical heading over the votes panel. The AFL-CIO headings are printed with an en dash ("AFL–CIO"); transcribed with a plain hyphen. The "South Carolina" row label's leader dots end in a comma-shaped mark, which I read as a leader-dot artifact and dropped. Rows for American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Marshall Islands, Northern Mariana Islands and Palau are printed as all zeros. All rows are internally consistent (union sub-columns sum to their panel totals, and union + no-union votes equal total valid votes cast), which supports the column assignments; no suspected misprints. Nothing was illegible.

p. 135. This is page 3 of 3 of Table 15A, so the body continues from the previous page: the first printed row, South Dakota, is the last State of the West North Central division whose other States appear on the earlier page, and the indented "West North Central" row immediately below it is that division's subtotal. "West South Central" is likewise a division subtotal row following its four States. The two indented subtotal rows and the final "Total, all States and areas" row are transcribed with their own indentation dropped but their wording kept. Heading detail: the fourth sub-column heading under both spanner groups is printed as "Other local union" with a trailing "s" dropped onto its own line ("union / s"); it is joined here as "Other local unions". Hyphenated line breaks in the headings ("elec-tions", "represent-ative", "em-ployees", "represent-ation") were repaired. "AFL–CIO" is set with an en dash in the image. All cells are legible; no doubtful digits. The printed arithmetic is internally consistent in every row (union sub-columns sum to the union totals, and union plus no-union equals total valid votes cast; the two division subtotals equal the sum of their States), so no misprint is suspected.
