  1. 1 See Glossary of terms for definitions. Advisory Opinion (AO) cases not included. See Table 22.
  2. 2 Totals for cases pending Oct. 1, 2008 in the Table 1 series, differ from last year's annual report. Revised totals result from postreport adjustments to last year's "on docket" and/or "closed figures." Totals in Tables 5–10 are within 1–3 percent of the totals in Table 1.
  3. 3 See Table 1A for totals by types of cases.
  4. 4 See Table 1B for totals by types of cases.

146 of 146 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 94. Seven columns: stub, Total^2, and the five columns under the spanner "Identification of filing party" (AFL–CIO Unions, Other National Unions, Other local Unions, Individuals, Employers). The stub column carries no printed heading; "Total^2" is a tall heading spanning both heading levels, so it is repeated in each. The six centred section lines ("All Cases", "Unfair labor practice cases^3", "Representation cases^4", "Union-shop deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases", "Unit clarification cases") are printed across the data area rather than in the stub; they are given as label-only rows with empty value cells. In the "Union-shop deauthorization cases" block the AFL–CIO Unions, Other National Unions, Other local Unions and Employers cells each print a short double-hyphen dash rule ("--", not-applicable) rather than a figure; per the dash-rule convention these are transcribed as empty cells. The Individuals and Total columns in that block carry real figures. Note the contrast with the "Amendment of certification cases" and "Unit clarification cases" blocks, where genuine printed zeros ("0") appear and are transcribed as 0. Row labels repeat in each block (the same five stub labels, Pending October 1, 2008 through Pending September 30, 2009); this is as printed, not a duplication error. The image is clean and all figures are legible; no cells are doubtful and nothing appears cut off by the crop. Arithmetic cross-checks (not applied to the transcription, only used as a reading check) are internally consistent: in every row the five filing-party columns sum to the printed Total, and the five case-type blocks sum to the "All Cases" block.
