  1. 1 See Glossary of terms for definitions.
  2. 2 The States are grouped according to the method used by the Bureau of Census, U.S. Department of Commerce.

698 of 698 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 100. The crop is the first of two pages of Table 6B and is cut off after the "Arkansas" row; Region VI and the remaining regions, the grand total, and any footnote texts are on the continuation page. Footnote markers appear on the caption ("Fiscal Year 2008^1", caption excluded per instructions) and on the stub heading ("Standard Federal Regions^2"), but no footnote text is printed within this crop, so `footnotes` is empty. Column structure: 17 columns — stub, "All cases", eight columns under the spanner "Unfair labor practice cases" (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), four under "Representation cases" (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), then three single columns whose code abbreviations UD, AC and UC are printed on a third heading line below their full names. The tall headings ("Standard Federal Regions^2", "All cases", and the twelve C/R subcolumn headings) are repeated down the heading levels they span. The "Virgin Islands" label is printed on two lines ("Virgin" / "Islands.") and is transcribed as one row. All values are as printed; no arithmetic was performed on the cells. As a check on column alignment only, every one of the 16 numeric columns in each of the five printed region subtotal rows (Region I–V) equals the sum of its member states as transcribed, so no misplaced or misread digits were detected. Image quality is clean (vector-era print), with no illegible or doubtful cells.

p. 101. This crop is the second of two pages of Table 6B (the caption reads "Page 2 of 2"), so Regions I-V and the earlier States are printed on the preceding page; the "Total, all States and areas" line therefore covers more than the rows shown here. For the same reason the "Region VI" subtotal does not equal the sum of the four States shown above it (323+139+132+934 = 1,528 vs. 1,655 printed); the missing State (Arkansas) belongs to Region VI and is printed on page 1. All other region subtotals and the row/column arithmetic of the rows shown here check out exactly as transcribed. The header has three printed levels: the three rightmost columns carry a second-level block heading ("Union deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases", "Unit clarification cases") above a third-level code line (UD, AC, UC); the stub and the other column headings are tall cells repeated down the levels they span. No cells were illegible.
