Reader’s notes
p. 259. Structure: the table is printed as two vertically stacked sections, each with its own copy of the same 10-column heading block (the sections are NOT side-by-side panels). The first block heads the single Sec. 10(e) row; the second block, printed between the Sec. 10(e) row and the Sec. 10(j) row, heads the Sec. 10(j) and Sec. 10(l) rows. The two blocks are identical except that the second names the district court instead of the appellate court and carries the footnote marker: its two "Injunction proceedings" sub-headings read "Pending in district court Oct. 01, 2003^1" and "Filed in district court fiscal year 2004". header_rows above reproduces the first (topmost) block only, so the ^1 marker, which is printed only in the second block, does not appear in the grid; footnote 1 attaches to the "Pending in district court Oct. 01, 2003" column of the lower section. Spelling as printed: the first heading block reads "appelate" (one l) in the "Pending in appelate court Oct. 01, 2003" column while the adjacent "Filed in appellate court fiscal year 2004" column spells it "appellate"; both are transcribed as printed. Tall headings "Total pro-ceedings" and "Total dis-positions" were de-hyphenated and repeated across both heading levels. Row label "8(b)4)(A)" is transcribed exactly as printed; the opening parenthesis before the 4 is missing in the image and this is almost certainly a misprint for "8(b)(4)(A)". Arithmetic oddities, transcribed as printed, not corrected: (a) in the "Total proceedings" column every detail row under the Sec. 10(j) and Sec. 10(l) totals is 0, even though the totals (13 and 7) are non-zero and equal pending + filed; (b) the Sec. 10(j) detail rows do not sum to the Sec. 10(j) total line in several columns — filed 1+2+8+1=12 vs 11, total dispositions 1+2+10+1=14 vs 12, granted 1+2+7+1=11 vs 9, pending 0+0+0+0=0 vs 1 (the pending, settled and withdrawn-column subtotals for 10(j) pending=2, settled=2, withdrawn=1 do agree). The Sec. 10(l) detail rows sum correctly to their total line in every column. All digits are crisp and legible; no cell is doubtful and nothing appears cut off by the crop.
