Dash entries: many cells are printed with a short double-hyphen dash rule ("--") meaning no elections/employees in that category. Per the transcription convention these dash cells are rendered as "" (empty). The table separately prints literal zeros ("0") in several cells (e.g. the "Local v. Local", "National v. Local", "AFL-CIO v. Local v. Local" and "Local v. Local v. Local" rows, and the three-union rows under "Total won"/"AFL-CIO unions"); those zeros are preserved as "0" and are distinct from the dash cells. "A. Many value cells carry a printed short dash (rendered "--") rather than a number; following the rule that a cell holding only a dash is empty, these are transcribed as "". Printed zeros are kept as 0, so the dash/zero distinction in the source is preserved only for the zeros.
