Geographic Distribution of Representation Elections Held in Cases Closed, Fiscal Year 2002

The crop ends immediately after the "Mountain" division subtotal; the table continues onto further pages (other geographic divisions and a grand total are not on this image), and no footnote text is printed within the crop even though the stub heading carries a superscript 1 marker (its text presumably appears at the foot of the table's last page). Fifteen columns, confirmed from the column rules: stub, "Total elections", the four-column "won by unions" block, "no representative was chosen", "eligible to vote", "Total valid votes cast", the four-column "Valid votes cast for unions" block, "Total votes for no union", and "Eligible employees in units choosing representation". Header wording: the last column is printed as "Eligible employ-/ees in units choos-/ing rep-/resentati/on" and is joined here to "Eligible employees in units choosing representation". Digit-grouping commas are used inconsistently in the source (e.g. Illinois "11,566" eligible to vote but "9608" total valid votes cast); these are transcribed exactly as printed, with no commas added or removed. Apparent printed anomaly, not corrected: in the Utah row, "Total valid votes cast" (323) exceeds "Number of employees eligible to vote" (267). The Mountain subtotal (6722 eligible, 5893 cast) is consistent with the printed Utah figures, so the error, if any, is in the eligible-to-vote entry as printed. All four subtotal rows (East North Central, East South Central, Middle Atlantic, Mountain) were checked column by column against their member states and every column adds correctly, which supports the column assignment of the figures above.

Continuation page of Table 15A (the caption carries "—Continued"); the table runs on beyond this crop and no footnote texts are printed on this image, so the superscript 1 marker on the stub heading "Division and State" is unresolved here. 15 columns. The table is printed as a single panel. Three indented subtotal rows are included as printed: "New England", "Outlying Areas" and "Pacific" (each set off by a double rule). All three check out arithmetically against the state rows above them in every column, which supports the digit reading. Digit-grouping commas are used inconsistently in the source and are transcribed exactly as printed: in the California row, 22,335 / 19,819 / 11,175 / 12,763 carry commas while 8904, 1633 and 8644 do not; likewise in the Pacific row, 34,053 / 29,786 / 16,726 / 14,129 / 13,060 / 20,136 carry commas while 1672 does not. All four-digit values elsewhere in the table (e.g. 2012, 3837, 7057, 6366) are printed without commas. The Maine value in the last column ("Eligible employees in units choosing representation") is 20, which is small relative to the 1 election won but is clearly printed as a two-digit number. No cells were illegible.

The three division subtotal rows (South Atlantic, West North Central, West South Central) each add up exactly across the states printed above them in every one of the 14 numeric columns, which supports the column assignment. Possible printing anomaly, transcribed as printed: Louisiana shows "Total valid votes cast" of 2106, which exceeds its "Number of employees eligible to vote" of 1951. The West South Central subtotals are consistent with the printed figures (11,491 eligible vs. 10,603 valid votes cast), so the oddity is confined to the Louisiana line as printed.
