Reader’s notes

p. 86. Seven printed columns: stub, Total, and the five columns under the spanner \"Identification of filing party\". The six centred section lines (All Cases; Unfair labor practice cases^2; Representation cases^3; Union-shop deauthorization cases; Amendment of certification cases; Unit clarification cases) are printed across the data columns, not in the stub; they are given here as label-only rows.\n\nIn the \"Union-shop deauthorization cases\" block, the AFL-CIO Unions, Other National Unions, Other local Unions and Employers cells each print a short double-dash rule (\"--\"), not a number or a zero; per the transcription rule for dash rules they are rendered as empty cells. Only the Total and Individuals columns carry figures there.\n\nThe \"All Cases / Pending October 1, 2001\" total is printed with an asterisk ahead of the figure (*25,044); it is transcribed as a trailing footnote marker, 25,044^*. The footnote text for that asterisk, and footnotes 2 and 3 (cued at \"Unfair labor practice cases\" and \"Representation cases\"), are not visible — the crop ends in the middle of the footnote 1 line, which is still legible but may be clipped at its end, and any further footnote lines are cut off below.\n\nNo arithmetic was altered. As a check, every row's five filing-party figures sum to its printed Total, and the five case-type blocks sum to the All Cases block on all five lines, so no misprint is suspected.
