No footnote texts are printed on this crop, although footnote markers 1 (on the stub heading "Industrial Group") and 2 (on "Total elections") appear in the headings. Apparent misprint, transcribed as printed: in the "Apparel Manufacturing" row the "Number of employees eligible to vote" cell (1,136) is smaller than "Total valid votes cast" (1,501), and smaller than "Eligible employees in units choosing representation" (1,108 is consistent, but the 1,501 votes cast cannot exceed eligible voters). The row's internal votes do balance (1,445 union + 56 no union = 1,501), and the 31-Manufacturing subtotal is computed from these printed figures (eligible column sums to 13,135, valid votes cast to 12,381), so the error is in the printed eligible-to-vote figure rather than in my reading. All other subtotal rows (Agriculture/Forestry/Fishing/Hunting, Mining, Construction, 31-Manufacturing) were checked and sum exactly to their component rows in every column. Indentation indicates the hierarchy: "Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, and Hunting", "Mining", "Construction" and "31-Manufacturing" are sector subtotals; "Utilities" is printed as its own single-line sector between rule lines (it is both a detail and a sector line).

p. 184. 15 columns, two heading levels. The spanner "Number of elections in which representation rights were won by unions" covers the four columns Total / AFL-CIO unions / Other national unions / Other local unions; the spanner "Valid votes cast for unions" covers a second identical set of four columns later in the table. The six tall single headings (stub, "Total elections", "Number of elections in which no representative was chosen", "Number of employees eligible to vote", "Total valid votes cast", "Total votes for no union", "Eligible employees in units choosing representation") are repeated in both levels. Crop/continuation: this is a "—Continued" page, and no footnote texts are printed below the table, although superscript markers 1 (on "Industrial Group") and 2 (on "Total elections") appear in the headings; their definitions are on an earlier page. The table itself continues past the bottom of the crop (it ends with the 33-Manufacturing subtotal rule, with no grand total shown). Suspected typesetting/printing issues, all transcribed as printed: - Row "33-Manufacturing", column "Number of employees eligible to vote": printed as 55459 with no digit-grouping comma, unlike every other value of that magnitude in the table. The digits themselves are unambiguous and equal the column sum (55,459). - Row label "Fabricated Metal Product Manufacturin": the final "g" is not printed; the label runs straight into the leader dots. Transcribed exactly as printed rather than repaired to "Manufacturing". - The heading "Eligible employees in units choosing representation" is set with end-of-line hyphens ("employ-ees", "choos-ing", "rep-resentati on"), with the last line breaking mid-word without a hyphen; joined and repaired per instructions. Arithmetic check (not applied to the cells, only used to verify column placement): every one of the 14 numeric columns in both subtotal rows, 32-Manufacturing and 33-Manufacturing, equals the sum of its member rows exactly, and in each data row the AFL-CIO / other national / other local components sum to their stated totals. No internal inconsistency found.

p. 185. The crop is a continuation page of Table 16 ("—Continued"), but the full two-level column heading block is reprinted on it, so header_rows is populated. 15 printed columns. The crop is cut off at the bottom: the last fully printed row is "Water Transportation", and the table clearly continues onto rows below the crop edge. No footnote block is visible on this crop, hence footnotes is empty, even though footnote markers 1 (Industrial Group) and 2 (Total elections) are printed in the headings. Row 3, the indented subtotal, is transcribed as printed: "Wholesale Trade". Unlike the parallel subtotal rows "44-Retail Trade" and "45-Retail Trade", no NAICS sector-code prefix (e.g. "42-") is legible before it at this resolution; if a prefix is present in the original it did not resolve in the scan. The label is otherwise set at the same indentation as the two retail subtotals. Arithmetic cross-checks on this crop are all internally consistent as printed: component rows sum to the 44- and 45-Retail Trade subtotals and to the Wholesale Trade subtotal in every column, and in each row the union votes plus votes for no union equal total valid votes cast. No suspected misprints. Two cells worth flagging only as low-contrast reads, both consistent with surrounding arithmetic: "Electronics and Appliance Stores", last column (Eligible employees in units choosing representation) = 0, which is consistent with that row winning 0 elections; and "Sporting Goods, Hobby, Book and Music Stores", last column = 0, likewise consistent with 0 elections won.

The stub heading "Industrial Group" carries a raised 1 and "Total elections" a raised 2, but no footnote text is printed on this crop (it is a "—Continued" page); the footnotes presumably appear on the table's last page. The crop is cut off at the bottom: the body ends mid-table with "Owners and Lessors of Other Non-Financial Assets" and no subtotal for the Real Estate / Rental and Leasing section, so the table continues on the following page. It also continues from the previous page: the "48-Transportation" subtotal (283 elections) exceeds the sum of the five 48- rows shown here (259), because the earlier rows of that group are printed on the preceding page. The same applies to its other columns. The last column for "Truck Transportation" is printed as "1271" with no digit-grouping comma, unlike every other four-digit value in that column; transcribed as printed. The subtotal rows are printed as "48-Transportation" and "49-Transportation" (the 49- group covers postal/courier/warehousing), and the next two subtotals are printed as plain "Information" and "Finance and Insurance" with no NAICS number prefix. Transcribed exactly as printed. The last column heading wraps as "Eligible employ- ees in units choos- ing rep- resentati on"; the final break has no hyphen but the word is clearly "representation", joined accordingly. Row labels that wrap over two printed lines ("Transit and Ground Passenger Transportation", "Motion Picture and Sound Recording Industries", "Information Services and Data Processing Services", "Credit Intermediation and Related Activities", "Owners and Lessors of Other Non-Financial Assets") are joined into single labels; the hyphen in "Non-Financial" is a true hyphen in the printed compound, not a line-break hyphen, so it is kept.

I checked the internal arithmetic as a reading aid only: every aggregate row equals the sum of its detail rows, each row's total elections equals won-by-unions plus no-representative, each union-votes total equals its AFL-CIO/other-national/other-local parts, and total valid votes cast equals union votes plus no-union votes in every row. No misprints detected. The Hospitals row's "30,000" eligible employees is exactly as printed (a round figure, but consistent with the Health Care and Social Assistance subtotal of 56,856).

Column count is 15: stub, "Total elections^2", four columns under "Number of elections in which representation rights were won by unions", three tall single columns ("Number of elections in which no representative was chosen", "Number of employees eligible to vote", "Total valid votes cast"), four columns under "Valid votes cast for unions", then "Total votes for no union" and "Eligible employees in units choosing representation". The last header cell is typeset as "Eligible employ-ees in units choos-ing rep-resentati on"; I joined the hyphenated breaks into "Eligible employees in units choosing representation". The final line break falls inside "representation" without a printed hyphen. The footnote line is clipped by the bottom edge of the crop: only the descenders/upper portion of footnote 1 is fully legible, and I read it as "Source: Standard Classification, Statistical Policy Division, Office of Management and Budget, Washington, D.C." The word order suggests the printed text may be "Standard Industrial Classification" or a NAICS reference with a word obscured by the crop; treat this footnote's wording as provisional. Footnote 2, referenced by the "Total elections^2" heading, is not visible on this crop at all — it falls below the cut. Internal cross-checks pass: the "Other Services (except Public Administration)" row equals the sum of Repair and Maintenance + Personal and Laundry Services + Religious, Grantmaking, Civic, and Professional and Similar Organizations in all 14 numeric columns, and "Public Administration" equals Justice, Public Order, and Safety + National Security and International Affairs in all 14. No misprints detected in the rows on this page. The "Total, all industrial groups" row cannot be checked here because most component rows are on the previous page. Rows "Other Services (except Public Administration)", "Public Administration", "Unclassified Establishments" and "Total, all industrial groups" are printed indented and set off by heavier rules, marking them as subtotal/total lines; the indentation is not reproduced in the labels.
