Reader’s notes
p. 141. Four printed columns: stub, "Cases in which formal actions taken", and the two-column spanner "Formal actions taken by type of case" (footnote marker 2) over AC and UC. The footnote-2 text is not visible — the crop ends just below footnote 1, so footnote 2 (referenced in the column heading) is cut off at the bottom. Arithmetic as printed does not reconcile in several rows: the AC and UC figures sum to less than the "Cases in which formal actions taken" figure (e.g. Hearings completed 3 + 55 = 58 vs 66; Decisions issued after hearing 4 + 74 = 78 vs 93; By Regional Directors 4 + 67 = 71 vs 86; Requests for review received 1 + 22 = 23 vs 24). Nothing appears cut off on the right — the spanner heading is centred over exactly the AC and UC columns — so the values are transcribed exactly as printed without correction. The row labels "Review of Regional Directors' decisions:" and "Regional Directors' decisions:" are section lines with no values. Apostrophes in those labels are printed as typographic right single quotes; transcribed as plain apostrophes. "Granted" is printed with extra space before its leader dots.
