741 of 741 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 145. 17 columns: stub, "All cases", 8 unfair-labor-practice columns (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), 4 representation columns (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), then UD, AC and UC. The header has three printed levels; the stub heading, "All cases", and the sub-column labels (All C cases, CA ... RD) span more than one level and are repeated per the convention, while "UD", "AC" and "UC" are printed only on the bottom level. This crop is a continuation page: it begins partway through the table with the East North Central division (earlier divisions are on the preceding page), and it is cut off after "Rhode Island" — the New England division subtotal and any later rows and footnotes fall below the crop. No footnotes are printed on this image; the superscript 2 on the stub heading "Division and State" refers to a footnote printed elsewhere. Typesetting inconsistency, transcribed as printed: four-digit figures in the "All C cases" column carry no digit-grouping comma (1592, 1556, 1782, 6278, 1497, 1310, 3425, 1930, 6665, 1747), as do "All R cases" 1221 and 1252, whereas the neighbouring columns do use commas (e.g. RC 1,080; CB 1,382). Nothing was added or removed. All row sums (All C cases = CA..CP; All R cases = RC+RM+RD; All cases = All C + All R + UD + AC + UC) and all five division subtotals reproduce exactly as printed, which independently corroborates the digits.

p. 146. The crop is a continuation page ("—Continued"): it opens mid-division (Vermont is the last state of the New England group, whose earlier states are on the preceding page) and is cut off after Kansas, so the West North Central division and all following divisions, plus any grand total and the footnote texts for markers 1 (caption) and 2 ("Division and State^2"), are not on this image. No footnote text is printed under the table here, so `footnotes` is empty. Typesetting quirk, transcribed as printed: in the "All C cases" column the four-digit values carry no digit-grouping comma (New England 1490, California 3303, Pacific 4600, South Atlantic 3147), while the same magnitudes in "All cases" and "CA" are printed with commas (1,776; 3,862; 5,545; 3,868; 1,180; 2,575; 3,566; 2,551). I did not add commas. Indented rows New England, Outlying Areas, Pacific and South Atlantic are division subtotal rows (set off by heavier rules in the image); they are kept in place as printed rows. "District Of Columbia" is printed with a capital "O". No illegible cells. All arithmetic relations in the image check out (component C columns sum to All C cases, R columns to All R cases, and the five case-type columns to All cases; the four subtotal rows equal the sums of their member states), which supports the column assignments.

p. 147. Continuation page: the body begins mid-table, so the "West North Central" subtotal row covers states (Iowa, Kansas) printed on the preceding page and does not equal the sum of the five state rows shown here; the "West South Central" subtotal does equal the sum of its four state rows shown. All printed figures are internally consistent (component columns sum to the "All C cases", "All R cases" and "All cases" columns in every row, including the grand-total row), so no suspected misprints. Thousands separators are inconsistent in the original and are transcribed as printed: "1633", "1647", "28974" and "5659" carry no comma while neighbouring five- and four-digit values do. Horizontal rules separate the West North Central block from the West South Central block and set off the subtotal and grand-total rows; no section-label rows are printed. The stub heading carries footnote marker 2, but only footnote 1 is visible at the bottom of the crop — the text of footnote 2 falls below the cropped area. Column assignments are unambiguous: every column is bounded by printed vertical rules.
