  1. 1 A single case may include allegations of violations of more than one subsection of the Act. Therefore, the total of the various allegations is greater than the total number of cases.

0 of 74 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 141. Scan quality: the decimal points in the "Percent of total cases" column are not resolved anywhere on this page (every value prints as e.g. "100 0", "17 9", "0 9"). These are one-decimal percentages, so they are transcribed with the decimal point restored ("100.0", "17.9", "0.9"); the digits themselves are legible and unambiguous. Likewise, sentence periods are faint or dropped in several labels: the section head for A reads "A Charges filed against employers under Sec. 8(a)" (period after the "A" not visible, though "B." in the parallel head below is clear), and "Subsections of Sec 8(a)/(b)" and "under Sec 8(b)" show no period after "Sec". Periods have been supplied in these labels to match the clearly printed forms elsewhere in the table. "Recapitulation" carries a raised footnote marker 1, but no footnote text is printed within this crop (the area below the last body row is blank down to the closing rule), so `footnotes` is empty; the note text presumably sits on the facing/next page. There is extra vertical white space between the 8(b)(1)(3) and 8(b)(1)(5) rows, which could suggest a dropped 8(b)(1)(4) line. No text or digits are visible there, and the printed detail lines in section B sum exactly to the printed total of 6,726 (and section A's detail lines sum exactly to 23,630), so no row appears to be missing; the gap is only spacing. The internal arithmetic of both panels and of the Recapitulation block checks out against the printed values. Stray specks/ink marks appear in the stub beside "Subsections of Sec. 8(a)", "Total cases", "8(a)(1)(2)", "8(a)(1)(2)(3)" and "8(a)(1)(2)(4)(5)", and below the last row; they are scan noise, not footnote markers or leader dots, and are not transcribed. The column heading is printed broken as "Number of cases show- / ing-specific allegations" and is joined here with the end-of-line hyphen repaired.

p. 142. Three printed columns: stub, "Number of cases showing-specific allegations" (printed "show- / ing-specific", end-of-line hyphen repaired), and "Percent of total cases". The crop is a continuation page ("—Continued"), so it opens directly with a centered "Recapitulation" section line rather than a new caption; the preceding part of Table 2 (employer allegations and the 8(b) total) is on the earlier page and is not in this crop. Scan quality: this page is a degraded 1998 scan in which fine punctuation largely drops out. In the Percent column every value is printed with a decimal point that renders as a blank gap (image shows "85 0", "100 0", "0 3", etc.); I have restored the decimal points, since all figures are percentages and every panel's total reads 100.0. Every percent is internally consistent with its base (e.g. 52/669 = 7.8, 37/121 = 30.6, 73/121 = 60.3), which confirms the placement. The same dropout affects sentence periods in the footnote (after "Act" and at the end), which I have likewise restored. Row labels: the parenthesis glyphs in the subsection labels are frequently scanned as an "X" (the image shows e.g. "8(bX4XA)", "8(bX7XA)"); these are ordinary closing-then-opening parentheses and are transcribed as 8(b)(4)(A), 8(b)(7)(A), etc. Section lines: the panel headings "B1 Analysis of 8 (b)(4)", "B2. Analysis of 8(b)(7)", "C. Charges filed under Sec 8(e)" and "D. Charges filed under Sec. 8(g)" are centered across the full table width and carry no values. "B1" shows no period after it and "Sec" in the C heading shows no period, unlike "B2." and "Sec." in D; these are transcribed as they appear, but the missing periods may simply be another instance of the punctuation dropout. The C heading also carries a small stray ink mark to the right of "8(e)" which is scanner dirt, not a footnote marker. Minor stray specks appear in the body (left of "8(b)(5)", in the blank stub area beside 8(b)(4)(B) and 8(b)(7)(C), and in the left margin beside 8(b)(7)(A)); none are footnote markers and none obscure a digit. No cell is illegible.
