p. 161. The crop shows 15 columns: the stub plus 14 numeric columns. Two spanner headings sit over sub-columns — "Number of elections in which representation rights were won by unions" over Total / AFL-CIO unions / Other national unions / Other local unions, and "Valid votes cast for unions" over the same four sub-headings; both are repeated across the columns they span, and the single-level tall headings are repeated down both header levels. The stub heading carries a superscript marker, transcribed as "Industrial group^1", but the crop ends just below the "Manufacturing" rule and no footnote text is visible, so `footnotes` is empty. The table itself is also cut off at the bottom: "Manufacturing" is a section total, and the nonmanufacturing portion plus any grand total continue beyond this crop. Arithmetic checks all balance as printed, which supports the digit readings: in every row the "won by unions" Total equals AFL-CIO + other national + other local; Total elections equals elections won + elections with no representative chosen; "Valid votes cast for unions" Total equals its three components; and total valid votes cast equals union votes + votes for no union. The "Manufacturing" line also equals the column sums of the 22 industry rows in every column (e.g. employees eligible to vote sums to 84,833 and eligible employees in units choosing representation to 28,531). The scan carries scattered specks of dirt that are not part of the data: stray dots after "424" (Textile mill products, Eligible employees in units choosing representation), after "1,534" (Stone, clay, glass, and concrete products, same column), before "1" (Stone, clay, glass, and concrete products, Other local unions), before "1,341" and "0" and "584", and in the blank areas of the header. None were transcribed as characters. Several headings are hyphenated across lines in the original ("employ-ees", "choos-ing", "rep-resenta-tion", "na-tional", "elec-tions", "repres-ent-ative"); they are rejoined here.

p. 162. Crop boundaries: the caption line at the very top is cut off (only fragments of "Table 15.—..." are visible) and is omitted per instructions. No footnote text is printed within this crop, so `footnotes` is empty even though the stub heading carries a raised "1" marker (transcribed as "Industrial group^1"); the note text must appear on a later part of the table. The bottom edge cuts immediately below the "Business services" row, so the table almost certainly continues onto the next image. Row structure: the table is set in blocks separated by rules. "Mining" and "Transportation, communication, and other utilities" are indented subtotal lines for the blocks above them and are transcribed as ordinary rows. The block containing Construction / Wholesale trade / Retail trade / Finance, insurance, and real estate / U.S. Postal Service is printed with no subtotal line, as in the original. The label "Local and suburban transit and interurban highway passenger transportation" wraps across two printed lines (hyphenated "transpor- tation") and is joined into one row. Legibility: all numerals are crisply printed and every row's union-vote components (AFL-CIO + other national + other local) sum exactly to the "Valid votes cast for unions — Total" column, which independently corroborates the column assignment. The only slightly faint cells are in the "Mining and quarrying of nonmetallic minerals (except fuels)" row, where a stray ink mark sits left of the AFL-CIO value; it is read as 14, with 10 under "Other national unions" and 4 under "Other local unions" (14+10+4 = 28, matching the Total). Small stray marks/specks also appear above several column headings ("Valid votes cast for unions" sub-headings, "Number of employees eligible to vote") and beside the 9 in the "Electric, gas, and sanitary services" / "Other local unions" cell; these are scanning artifacts, not footnote markers. The "AFL-CIO" headings are printed with an en-dash-like rule and are rendered with a plain hyphen.

This crop is the final page of a table continued from earlier pages: the body opens mid-way through the service industries (no "Mining", "Manufacturing" etc. sections appear), though the column headings are reprinted in full on this page and so are transcribed here. The rows "Services", "Public administration" and "Total, all industrial groups" are indented subtotal/total lines, set off by rules. Cell reading note: in the "Museums, art galleries, botanical and zoological gardens" row the "Number of elections in which representation rights were won by unions / Total" cell is printed as ".2" — the leading mark is a stray leader dot from the stub's dot leaders, not a decimal point or footnote marker, so it is transcribed as 2 (consistent with 1 + 0 + 1 = 2 in the three component columns). A similar stray dot/dash artifact sits left of "2" in the "Legal services" AFL-CIO column and left of "37" in the "Social services" AFL-CIO column; both are speckle, not print. All internal arithmetic is consistent as transcribed: in every row Total elections = elections won by unions + elections with no representative; the union Total equals AFL-CIO + other national + other local in both the elections panel and the valid-votes panel; and Total valid votes cast = total union votes + total votes for no union. No misprints detected.
