Reader’s notes
p. 142. Twelve columns: stub, "Total elections", then Number/Percent pairs under "Objections only", "Challenges only", "Objections and challenges", "Total objections^1", "Total challenges^2". "Total elections" is a tall single heading spanning both heading levels and is repeated in both; the stub has no printed heading. Many Percent cells hold a printed dash rule (-----) rather than a value; per the convention these are transcribed as "". In the "Expedited elections" row the final cell (Total challenges / Percent) shows no clearly inked dash rule in the scan — it is either a faint dash rule or blank; either way it is "". Scan noise leaves stray specks in the stub area (e.g. small marks near "Stipulated elections" and "Regional Director-directed elections") and between some columns; these are not characters. Printed totals are internally consistent (e.g. 134+30=164, 58+30=88; 3,214+52+421=3,687; 16+3,030+4+627+10=3,687), so no misprints are suspected. The caption "Table 11B.—Representation Elections in Which Objections and/or Determinative Challenges Were Ruled On in Cases Closed, Fiscal Year 1997" was omitted as instructed.
