The "Total" column heading spans both heading levels, so it is repeated in each; the stub has no printed heading. The six centered italic/roman band labels ("All cases", "Unfair labor practice cases^2", "Representation cases^3", "Union-shop deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases", "Unit clarification cases") are printed as centered section lines across the data columns, not in the stub column; they are given here as label-only rows. Suspected misprint: in the "Union-shop deauthorization cases" panel the last two row labels are printed as "Closed fiscal 1996" and "Pending September 30, 1996"; every other panel reads "Closed fiscal 1997" and "Pending September 30, 1997". Transcribed as printed. The asterisk footnote marker is printed to the left of the figure in the Total column for the four "Pending October 1, 1996" rows (All cases, Unfair labor practice, Representation, Unit clarification); it is placed after the value here, per convention. In the "Union-shop deauthorization cases" panel, all cells in the AFL-CIO unions, Other national unions, Other local unions and Employers columns hold a long dash rule, transcribed as empty. All row sums cross-check: each row's five filing-party figures add to the printed Total, and the five case-type panels add to the "All cases" panel, in every row. Scattered stray ink specks appear in the scan (e.g. near "Received fiscal 1997" / Individuals in the All cases panel and near the Amendment-of-certification figures); they are page noise, not digits or markers.
