  1. 1 Sec. 8(a)(3) of the Act requires that to revoke a union-shop agreement a majority of the employees eligible to vote must vote in favor of deauthorization.

32 of 32 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 145. Fifteen columns: stub plus five under "Number of polls", five under "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)", four under "Valid votes cast". The header block has four levels; headings that occupy fewer levels (the tall "Total", "Total eligible", "Percent of total eligible" stacks, and the two-level "Resulting in deauthorization" / "Resulting in continued authorization" / "Cast for deauthorization" spanners) are repeated down the levels they occupy, as instructed. The superscript 1 belongs to the "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)" heading and is recorded as ^1 there. Possible rounding/typesetting oddity in the "Other national unions" row: 83 of 319 is 26.0 percent and 236 of 319 is 74.0 percent, but the page prints 26.1 and 73.9 (they do sum to 100.0). The digits are legible and are transcribed as printed; no other percentage in the table disagrees with its own numerator and denominator, and all column and row sums check out. The stub label reads "AFL-CIO unions"; the printed dash between AFL and CIO is a short en-dash-like rule, transcribed as a plain hyphen. Nothing appears cut off by the crop; the caption and the footnote rule are both fully visible, and a stray ink speck sits in the right margin beside the footnote line.
