Reader’s notes

p. 136. Layout: stub plus eight two-column panels (All C, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), each panel with Number and Percent of cases closed, for 17 columns. "Stage of disposition" is a tall stub heading spanning both heading levels, so it is repeated in each. Dashes: many percent cells in the CC through CP panels (and in the CA/CB panels on the last rows) hold an em-dash rule rather than a value; these are transcribed as "". The Number cells beside them hold a printed 0 and are transcribed as 0. Note the "After Supreme Court action" row prints 0 and 0.0 in the All C panel but 0 with a dash rule in every other panel, as transcribed. Arithmetic as printed: the eight case-type Number cells sum exactly to the All C figure in every row, and each printed percent matches its Number divided by that panel's "Total number of cases closed", which supports the digit reading throughout. However, the stage rows do not sum vertically to the printed "Total number of cases closed": All C sums to 29,463 against a printed 29,485 (short 22), CA sums to 22,693 against 22,703 (short 10), CB sums to 5,934 against 5,942 (short 8), and CC sums to 478 against 482 (short 4). The CD, CE, CG, and CP panels do sum exactly. The shortfalls are themselves consistent (10 + 8 + 4 = 22), suggesting the table omits a disposition stage rather than that a digit is misread. Nothing was computed, corrected, or inserted; all values are as printed. A small stray ink speck sits just below the "Stage of disposition" heading in the stub; it is a scanning artifact, not a footnote marker, and is not transcribed. The footnote line is clipped by the bottom edge of the crop: only the upper portion of the characters is visible, so the wording "See Glossary of terms for definitions." is read from partial letterforms and is the one doubtful element here. The caption carries a raised 1 ("Fiscal Year 1996-1"), which is the marker this footnote answers; the caption itself is excluded per instructions.
