  1. 1 See Glossary of terms for definitions.
  2. 2 The States are grouped according to the 10 Standard Federal Administrative Regions.

750 of 750 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out. 2 cells break a sum: 'North Carolina', column 2: prints 371, the subtotals in columns 3 to 17 add to 369; 'Region IV', column 17: prints 15, rows 'Alabama' to 'Tennessee' add to 13.

Reader’s notes

p. 129. The crop cuts the table off at the bottom: North Carolina is the last line on the image and the table plainly continues (the Region IV block is incomplete, and further regions follow on the source page). The North Carolina row itself is clipped at the crop edge — its last column (UC) is not visible, so that cell is left empty; every other cell in that row is legible. No footnote texts appear on this crop, though footnote markers 1 (in the caption, omitted per instructions) and 2 (on the stub heading "Standard Federal Regions") are printed, so the footnote block must sit below the cut. The three rightmost headings are set as two-level stacks: "Union deauthorization cases" / "Amendment of certification cases" / "Unit clarification cases" over the code abbreviations UD / AC / UC; they are repeated down the levels they span. Row-and-column arithmetic checks out everywhere it can be tested (each state's All C cases equals CA+CB+CC+CD+CE+CG+CP, All cases equals All C + All R + UD + AC + UC, and each Region line equals the sum of its states), which supports the column alignment. A stray ink speck sits in the Alabama row's UC column area just below the Region III rule and is not a digit; a similar speck appears near Maine's AC cell and near New Hampshire's RM cell.

p. 130. 17 columns: stub, "All cases", eight unfair-labor-practice columns (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), four representation columns (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), and the three single columns UD, AC, UC. Crop coverage: this is a continuation page. It begins mid-section (South Carolina and Tennessee are the tail of the Region IV block; the earlier Region IV states are on the preceding page) and is cut off at the bottom after Wyoming — the Region VIII total row and any later regions are not on this image. No footnote texts are printed within the crop, although footnote markers appear (a raised 1 on the caption, which is excluded, and a raised 2 on the stub heading "Standard Federal Regions"). Verification: every row was checked arithmetically and all are internally consistent — CA+CB+CC+CD+CE+CG+CP equals "All C cases"; RC+RM+RD equals "All R cases"; All C + All R + UD + AC + UC equals "All cases"; and the state rows in each of the Region V, VI and VII blocks sum exactly to the printed region totals in all 16 numeric columns. No misprints detected. Minor scan artifacts, none affecting values: a stray comma-like speck sits above the "CA" heading; a small tick mark appears below the stub heading "Standard Federal Regions"; scattered specks sit in the whitespace of several body rows (e.g. near Ohio CG, Arkansas CA, New Mexico CE, Region VI RC, Utah UD). The "Region VII" row is set directly against the Nebraska row without the blank rule that separates the other region totals; it is still a total row.

p. 131. This is a continuation page ("—Continued"): the table begins on an earlier page with Regions I–VII, so the "Region VIII" subtotal row at the top of this crop has its member states printed on the preceding page, and only its subtotal line appears here. Column headings are printed on this page and are transcribed above. Header structure: 17 columns. "Unfair labor practice cases" spans the eight columns All C cases through CP; "Representation cases" spans All R cases through RD. The three rightmost headings are two-tier boxes ("Union deauthorization cases" over UD, "Amendment of certification cases" over AC, "Unit clarification cases" over UC); their wrapped/hyphenated words ("deauthor-ization", "Amend-ment of certifi-cation", "clari-fication") have been rejoined. The stub heading "Standard Federal Regions" carries a raised 2 footnote marker; the caption's "Fiscal Year 1996" carries a raised 1 (caption excluded per instructions, but footnote 1 is retained). Arithmetic checks all pass as printed: each region subtotal equals the sum of its listed states in every column; "All C cases" equals CA+CB+CC+CD+CE+CG+CP in every row; "All R cases" equals RC+RM+RD; and "All cases" equals All C + All R + UD + AC + UC. No suspected misprints. Scan artifacts: stray ink specks appear in a few cells (e.g. near Hawaii/CA, Oregon/RM "..7", Washington/All C) but the digits themselves are legible and were confirmed by the row and column sums. The leader dots after each state name were dropped.
