692 of 692 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 178. 15 columns. The stub heading carries a raised footnote marker ("Industrial group^1"), but no footnote text is printed within this crop; the footnote presumably appears at the foot of the full page or on a continuation page, so `footnotes` is empty. The table itself is continued beyond this crop: the body here ends with the "Manufacturing" subtotal and the non-manufacturing industry groups and grand total are not on this image. Arithmetic check (not applied as a correction, only as verification): every one of the 14 numeric columns sums across the 22 industry rows exactly to the printed "Manufacturing" line, and within each row the union-breakdown components (AFL-CIO + other national + other local) sum to the printed "Total" for both elections won and valid votes cast, and union votes + no-union votes equal total valid votes cast. No misprints detected. Doubtful glyphs, all transcribed as the plain digit: "Petroleum refining and related industries", column "Number of elections in which representation rights were won by unions / Total" prints 6 followed by a small stray apostrophe-like speck — read as 6 (an ink artifact, not a footnote marker), consistent with 6 + 5 = 11 total elections. "Stone, clay, glass, and concrete products", column "Total votes for no union" prints 2,075 with a short stray dash to its right that belongs to the adjacent column rule, not to the value. Header text in the scan is lightly broken (dotted i's lost, en dash in "AFL–CIO"); headings were joined across lines and end-of-line hyphens repaired (e.g. "Num-ber of elec-tions ... repre-sent-ative was chosen", "Eligi-ble em-ploy-ees in units choos-ing rep-resen-tation"), and "AFL–CIO" is written with a plain hyphen. A few faint stray marks sit in the blank area under the stub heading; they are scan noise and were not transcribed.

p. 179. This is a continuation page of Table 16 (the "—Continued" caption is printed), so the body begins mid-table with no opening section label. The column headings are printed in full on this page and are transcribed. The crop ends immediately after the "Miscellaneous repair services" line, at the bottom rule of the image; the table clearly continues onto the following page (the "Services" subtotal and any later industry groups are not on this crop). No footnote text is visible on this crop even though the stub heading carries a raised "1" marker ("Industrial group^1"); the footnote text presumably sits at the foot of the full page, below the crop. Row grouping as printed: rows 1-4 are indented detail lines closing with the "Mining" subtotal (row 5, set off by rules); rows 6-10 (Construction through U.S. Postal Service) are an indented block with no subtotal shown within the crop; rows 11-16 close with the "Transportation, communication, and other utilities" subtotal (row 17); rows 18-27 are the start of the services block, whose subtotal falls below the crop. The "U.S. Postal Service" label is printed with the second period after "S" faint/absent in the scan ("U.S Postal Service"); I have transcribed it with the period as it is standard in these tables. A small ink speck sits just left of the "3" in the Metal mining / Total elections cell; it is a stray mark, not a digit or footnote marker. A similar stray dot appears in the Water transportation row near the "Valid votes cast for unions — AFL-CIO unions" column (value 225) and between the Electric/Transportation-subtotal rules above the Hotels row; both are scan artifacts. Arithmetic cross-checks all pass as printed: for every detail row, Total elections = elections won by unions + elections with no representative; union-won Total = AFL-CIO + other national + other local; union votes Total = AFL-CIO + other national + other local; and Total valid votes cast = union votes + votes for no union. Both printed subtotal rows ("Mining" and "Transportation, communication, and other utilities") equal the sum of their detail rows in all 14 numeric columns. No misprints detected.

p. 180. This crop is the final page of a table continued from earlier pages, so only the last few industrial groups, the "Services" and "Public administration" lines and the grand total appear; the column headings are reprinted in full on this page and are transcribed above. 15 printed columns: stub, "Total elections", four columns under "Number of elections in which representation rights were won by unions", "Number of elections in which no representative was chosen", "Number of employees eligible to vote", "Total valid votes cast", four columns under "Valid votes cast for unions", "Total votes for no union", and "Eligible employees in units choosing representation". In the spanning heading the word "won" is printed with a broken/filled-in "n" that reads like "woa" in the scan; transcribed as "won". Several dotted i's in the scan print without their dots (e.g. "galleries", "botanical", "Miscellaneous", "industrial", "Classification", "Division", "Washington", "representative"); transcribed with normal spelling. The "Services" and "Public administration" rows and the grand total are set off by rules and indented relative to the detail rows; indentation is not represented in the cells. All rows cross-foot consistently as printed (component union columns sum to their "Total", union total plus "no union" equals total valid votes cast, and elections won plus elections with no representative chosen equals total elections), so no suspected misprints. No cells were illegible.
