  1. 1 See Glossary of terms for definitions.
  2. 2 The States are grouped according to the method used by the Bureau of the Census, U.S. Department of Commerce.

737 of 737 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 143. The crop ends mid-table: the last printed row is Maryland, whose row is clipped at the bottom edge of the image (its digits are still fully legible). The South Atlantic division and all later divisions/states and the grand total continue on the following page. Footnote markers 1 (on the caption year) and 2 (on the stub heading "Division and State") are printed on this page, but no footnote text appears within the crop, so `footnotes` is empty. Arithmetic check (used only to confirm column alignment, nothing was altered): for every state row CA+CB+CC+CD+CE+CG+CP equals the printed "All C cases", and "All C cases"+"All R cases"+UD+AC+UC equals the printed "All cases"; each division subtotal equals the sum of its member states in all 16 value columns. No discrepancies found. Scanning artifacts, none transcribed: a stray ink dot sits below "Division and State" in the stub heading area; a small dot appears between the Wisconsin UD and AC columns; a short dash appears just left of the Nebraska "All C cases" value 105. The 17 columns are: stub, All cases, All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP, All R cases, RC, RM, RD, UD, AC, UC.

p. 144. 17 columns: stub plus 16 numeric columns. The three right-hand columns are tall two-level headings (Union deauthorization cases / UD, Amendment of certification cases / AC, Unit clarification cases / UC); "All cases" and the stub heading "Division and State^2" span all three heading levels. The crop begins in the middle of the South Atlantic division: the first states of that division (Delaware and Maryland on the preceding page) are not on this image, so the "South Atlantic" total row (4,409 all cases) is larger than the sum of the seven states listed here (3,597). The South Atlantic total row is nevertheless internally consistent across its own columns. The East South Central, West South Central and Mountain divisions are complete, and every state row, every division total row and every column of those three divisions cross-foots exactly. The table continues past the bottom of the crop (the Pacific division and the grand total are not shown), and no footnote text is printed on this image even though the stub heading carries a raised "2" marker. Idaho, column CC: the mark in this cell is faint in the scan; it reads as 0, which is confirmed by both the row sum (100 + 7 = 107 = All C cases) and the Mountain CC column total (1 + 3 + 6 = 10). A stray speck above the cell could be mistaken for a 1. A small stray dot is printed under the stub heading "Division and State^2"; it is scan noise or a stray mark, not text, and has been omitted.

p. 145. This is the final page of Table 6A (a "—Continued" page), but the column headings are reprinted on it, so they are transcribed. 17 columns: stub, All cases, the eight unfair-labor-practice columns (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), the four representation columns (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), and the UD, AC and UC columns. The three one-column headings at the right ("Union deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases", "Unit clarification cases") sit over their respective code letters (UD, AC, UC) on the bottom heading level, so they are repeated down the heading levels. The page shows only the tail of the table: the Pacific division states, the outlying areas, and the grand total; the earlier divisions are on preceding pages. The Pacific and Outlying areas rows are subtotals, indented in the original. Scan artifacts: a stray ink speck appears before "222" in the Puerto Rico / CA cell and before "0" in the Puerto Rico / UD cell, and the "2" in the Outlying areas / RM cell carries a dirt mark that can look like a comma; these are read as plain 222, 0 and 2. All printed row and column sums in the body cross-check exactly, which supports the digit readings.
