Reader’s notes

p. 180. Two printed columns: the stub ("Stage") and "Median days". All values are clear and unambiguous. Punctuation in row labels, on this low-contrast 1-bit scan: the period after the item number is clearly visible for I.A.1, I.A.2, II.A.1, II.A.2 and II.A.4, but is not visible after the numerals in "3 Close of hearing to issuance of administrative law judge's decision", "4 Administrative law judge's decision...", "5 Filing of charge to issuance of Board decision" (section I.A) or in "3 Close of hearing to—" (section II.A); these have been transcribed as they appear, but the periods may simply have dropped out in scanning. Likewise "A Major stages completed—" under I shows no period after the "A", whereas the matching line under II clearly reads "A. Major stages completed—". In "3 Close of hearing to—" (section II.A) a stray period is printed immediately before the numeral (".3 Close of hearing to—"); it is almost certainly the item's own period displaced to the left, so it has been omitted from the label. "1. Filing of petition of notice of hearing issued" (median 7) is transcribed as printed; "of notice" is very likely a misprint for "to notice", as in other years' editions of this table. Section heading "II. Representation cases." carries a trailing period as printed; "I. Unfair labor practice cases" does not. The sub-labels "Board decision issued" and "Regional Director's decision issued" each occur twice, indented under "3 Close of hearing to—" and under "4. Filing of petition to—" respectively; both pairs are retained in order. Footnote markers 1 and 2 are raised digits attached to the word "Age" in rows I.B, I.C, II.B and II.C and are recorded with a caret after that word.
