Reader’s notes

p. 162. The table has 15 columns: stub, then "Number of polls" (Total; Resulting in deauthorization Number/Percent of total; Resulting in continued authorization Number/Percent of total), "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)" (Total eligible; In polls: Resulting in deauthorization Number/Percent of total; Resulting in continued authorization Number/Percent of total), and "Valid votes cast" (Total; Percent of total eligible; Cast for deauthorization Number/Percent of total eligible). Row "Other national unions": three cells print a dash rule rather than a figure and are transcribed as "" — the "Resulting in deauthorization / Percent of total" column under Number of polls, the "In polls / Resulting in deauthorization / Percent of total" column, and the "Cast for deauthorization / Percent of total eligible" column. The corresponding Number cells in those groups print a literal 0. Row "Other national unions", column "In polls / Resulting in continued authorization / Percent of total": the scan shows "100 0" with the decimal point dropped or too faint to register; transcribed as "100.0" to match the same row's "100.0" under Number of polls. The underlying value is unambiguous (226 of 226). Row "Total", column "In polls / Resulting in deauthorization / Number": a small comma-shaped speck sits in the cell just left of "846". It is a scan artifact, not a footnote marker or digit, and is not transcribed. A similar stray mark appears in the margin left of the "Total" row label and at the far right of the caption rule. Scan quality note: many "i" dots are lost in the headings (e.g. "Resultmg", "contmued", "umons", "authonzation"); headings are transcribed with correct spelling. Hyphenated line breaks in headings ("de-authorization", "contin-ued authorization", "deauthonz-ation") have been rejoined. All internal arithmetic is consistent as transcribed: the four affiliation rows sum to the Total row in every count column (polls 43+11+1+6=61; deauthorization polls 23+2+0+3=28; continued 20+9+1+3=33; eligible 2,528+721+226+344=3,819; in-polls deauthorization 808+13+0+25=846; in-polls continued 1,720+708+226+319=2,973; valid votes 1,964+543+217+207=2,931; cast for deauthorization 682+12+0+23=717), and every printed percentage matches its ratio. No misprints suspected.
