672 of 673 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out. 2 cells break a sum: 'Automotive repair, services, a', column 2: prints 388, the subtotals in columns 3 to 17 add to 389; 'Services', column 17: prints 101, rows 'Hotels, rooming hous' to 'Miscellaneous servic' add to 102.

Reader’s notes

p. 140. The crop ends in the middle of the table: the body is cut off after "Automotive and other transportation equipment" (that last row is the final fully printed line) and no footnote texts are visible, so `footnotes` is empty even though the caption carries a raised 1 and the stub heading a raised 2. Column structure read as 17 columns: stub, All cases, the eight unfair-labor-practice columns (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), the four representation columns (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), then UD, AC and UC, each of whose three-level headings is a tall spanning heading repeated down the levels. Two stray marks from the scan, both read as printing artifacts and not transcribed: a short dash just left of the CC value "6" in "Primary metal industries", and an apostrophe-like tick just left of the UD value "3" in "Automotive and other transportation equipment". All 20 rows cross-check arithmetically (C columns sum to All C cases, R columns to All R cases, and All C + All R + UD + AC + UC to All cases), which supports the column assignments.

p. 141. 17 columns: stub, "All cases", 8 unfair-labor-practice columns (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), 4 representation columns (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), and UD, AC, UC. The stub heading "Industrial group^2" and "All cases" are tall single headings spanning all three heading levels; "Union deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases" and "Unit clarification cases" span the top two levels with UD/AC/UC printed on the third level beneath them. The crop is a continuation page: it opens mid-way through the manufacturing block (the first printed row is "Measuring, analyzing, and controlling instruments; ..."), and it is cut off at the bottom — "Business services" is the last row on the image, flush with the bottom edge, and the table clearly continues onto further rows (plus any service-division subtotal and grand total) that are not in this crop. No footnote text is printed on this crop, so the text of marker 2 on "Industrial group" is not available here. Suspected misprint: in the "Automotive repair, services, and garages" row the components sum to 389, not the printed 388 in the "All cases" column (266 All C + 120 All R + 0 UD + 1 AC + 2 UC = 389). The component columns are internally consistent (200+56+5+1+0+0+4 = 266; 94+4+22 = 120). Transcribed as printed; the "All cases" figure may be a printed 389 that reads as 388 in this scan, or a typesetting error. Every other row on the page adds correctly. In the "U.S. Postal Service" row there is a small stray dash-like mark printed just to the left of the 0 in the CG column; it is not a digit or a footnote marker and the cell is transcribed as 0. A small isolated speck sits in the blank band between the "Manufacturing" subtotal row and "Metal mining"; it is not a row or a value. Row labels that wrap over two printed lines ("Measuring, analyzing, and controlling instruments; photographic, medical, and optical goods, watches and clocks"; "Local and suburban transit and interurban highway passenger transportation"; "Transportation, communication, and other utilities") have been joined into single labels with the end-of-line hyphens repaired. Subtotal rows ("Manufacturing", "Mining", "Transportation, communication, and other utilities") are indented in the original but their wording is kept as printed.

p. 142. This is the final page of a table continued from earlier pages, so only the last industrial-group detail rows appear; the column headings are reprinted on this page and are transcribed above. 17 columns: stub, "All cases", eight unfair-labor-practice columns (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), four representation columns (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), and UD, AC, UC. The three rightmost headings ("Union deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases", "Unit clarification cases") are printed as tall blocks spanning the first two heading levels, with UD/AC/UC on the third level; they are repeated across the levels they span per the instructions. The "Services", "Public administration" and "Total, all industrial groups" rows are indented summary rows separated by horizontal rules; their labels are transcribed as printed. All printed row totals and column subtotals cross-check correctly (e.g., Services: 4,878+1,629+79+23+5+29+29 = 6,672; Total row: 32,442+6,076+119+22+284 = 38,943), so no misprints are suspected. The row label broken as "gar- dens" at the end of a line is joined to "gardens".
