680 of 680 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out. 2 cells break a sum: 'Business services', column 2: prints 1,816, the subtotals in columns 3 to 17 add to 1,809; 'Services', column 17: prints 99, rows 'Hotels, rooming hous' to 'Miscellaneous servic' add to 92.
p. 178. The crop is the top portion of Table 5 only: the body is cut off after "Automotive and other transportation equipment", and the table continues on the rest of the page (further industrial groups and presumably a total row). No footnote texts are visible in the crop, so `footnotes` is empty even though footnote markers 1 (on the caption) and 2 (on the stub heading "Industrial group") are printed. 17 columns: stub, "All cases", eight columns under "Unfair labor practice cases" (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), four under "Representation cases" (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), then three single columns whose group titles span the top two heading levels with the code (UD, AC, UC) printed on the third level. Scan artifacts, none transcribed as data: a stray dot sits just left of the RD value "5" in "Textile mill products"; a stray dot precedes "111" in the All R cases column of "Chemicals and allied products"; a stray tick follows "0" in the CD column of "Aircraft and parts"; small dot/comma specks trail the stub labels of "Furniture and fixtures", "Leather and leather products", "Ship and boat building and repairing" and the "All cases" value of "Apparel and other finished products...". These are leader-dot or speckle residue from the 1-bit scan. Arithmetic check (not used to alter any cell): every row is internally consistent as printed — CA through CP sum to "All C cases", RC+RM+RD sum to "All R cases", and All C + All R + UD + AC + UC sum to "All cases". No suspected misprints. The scan renders some ligatures/dotted-i characters faintly ("Unfair", "Union", "Representation", "authorization", "certification"); headings are transcribed in their standard printed wording.
p. 179. Crop is a continuation page ("—Continued"), so the table begins mid-body (no opening industrial groups) and no footnote block is printed beneath it; the footnote markers visible here (superscript 1 on the caption, superscript 2 on the stub heading "Industrial group") are defined on an earlier page. Bottom of the crop: the last printed row, "Business services", is clipped by the bottom edge. Its cells through AC are legible (1,816 / 1,461 / 999 / 401 / 30 / 13 / 3 / 0 / 15 / 332 / 275 / 16 / 41 / 15 / 1), but the final UC cell is cut off and is left as "". For every other row the printed components sum exactly to the printed subtotals and totals, and for this row 1,461 + 332 + 15 + 1 = 1,809 against a printed "All cases" of 1,816, which is consistent with a missing UC value, but nothing was entered since the digit is not visible on the image. Doubtful glyphs, all low-risk: "Motion pictures" UC reads 0 preceded by a stray speck of toner (transcribed as 0, consistent with the row balancing to 199); "Automotive repair, services, and garages" UD is a slightly broken 4 (row balances at 4). The stub "U S. Postal Service" is printed with faint/dropped periods and is transcribed as "U.S. Postal Service". Column rules are clear throughout, and the three indent levels (detail rows, flush-left transport/service rows, and indented divisional subtotals such as Manufacturing, Mining, and Transportation, communication, and other utilities) were used only to identify rows, not recorded in the grid. Verification: every one of the 28 fully visible rows was checked three ways — CA+CB+CC+CD+CE+CG+CP = All C cases, RC+RM+RD = All R cases, and All C + All R + UD + AC + UC = All cases. All 84 checks pass, which independently confirms the 17-column assignment and the digits.
p. 180. This crop is the final page of Table 5 (a "—Continued" page), so the body begins mid-list with the tail of the Services industry division; it carries its own full column headings, which are transcribed. 17 columns: stub, "All cases", eight unfair-labor-practice columns (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), four representation columns (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), and three single-column groups whose two-level heading boxes sit over the sub-labels UD, AC and UC. The three right-hand headings are hyphenated across printed lines ("Union de-authoriza-tion cases", "Amendment of certifi-cation cases", "Unit clar-ification cases") and have been rejoined. "Museums, art galleries, and botanical and zoological gardens" wraps onto two printed lines ("gar-dens") and is transcribed as one row. The rows "Services", "Public administration" and "Total, all industrial groups" are indented summary lines set off by rules; their labels are kept as printed. Scan quality is good and every row is internally consistent: the CA-through-CP cells sum to "All C cases", RC+RM+RD sum to "All R cases", and All C + All R + UD + AC + UC sum to "All cases" in all eight rows, including the grand total. No illegible or doubtful cells.
