Reader’s notes

p. 148. The table has 8 columns: stub, Total, and six columns under the spanner "Identification of filing party" (AFL-CIO unions, Teamsters, Other national unions, Other local unions, Individuals, Employers). The stub has no printed heading, so cell 0 of both heading levels is empty. "Total" is a tall single heading spanning both levels and is repeated. The seven "CA cases" ... "CP cases" lines are centered section headings printed across the table body; they carry no values. The asterisk footnote marker is printed to the LEFT of four Total figures (16,337 / 3,730 / 913 / 60 in the "Pending October 1, 1989" rows of CA, CB, CC and CE); per the convention requested it is written after the value as "^*". Suspected misprints, transcribed as printed: (1) the first CP row is labelled "Pending October 1, 1990" where every other section reads "Pending October 1, 1989"; (2) the asterisk footnote reads "reported pending Sept. 30, 1990, in last year's annual report", but last year's report would have given pending Sept. 30, 1989 — the last digit of that year is somewhat faint and 1989 may be intended. The original 1-bit scan also drops many dots over the letter i (e.g. "Pendıng", "Receıved"); these are transcribed as normal letters. Row labels are followed by long, irregular leader-dot runs, which have been dropped. All column sums and roll-forward identities (pending + received = on docket; on docket - closed = pending) check out for every panel, which supports the column assignment of each figure.
