  1. 1 In courts of appeals.

97 of 97 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 258. 12 columns. The stub column carries no printed heading, so cell 0 of both heading levels is empty. "Total proceedings", "Total dispositions" and "Pending in district court Sept. 30, 1989" are tall single headings spanning both heading levels and are repeated in each; "Injunction proceedings" spans 2 columns and "Disposition of injunctions" spans 6. In the "Under Sec. 10(e) total" row the "Total proceedings" cell is printed as a raised 1 immediately before a 0; I read this as the value 0 carrying footnote marker 1 (transcribed "0^1"), consistent with the footnote "In courts of appeals" and with the rest of that row being zeros. The third total row is printed "Under Sec. 10(l) total" with a lowercase letter l (matching Sec. 10(l) in the caption); the scan makes it easy to mistake for a capital I. In the "8(a)(1)(2)(3)" row there is a stray ink speck just left of the 1 in the "Filed in district court fiscal year 1989" column, and another speck in the "Settled" column of the "8(a)(1)(3)(4)" row; neither is a digit or a footnote marker. The table's internal arithmetic checks out everywhere (section totals equal the sums of their subsidiary lines, and total proceedings = pending Oct. 1 + filed = total dispositions + pending Sept. 30 in every row), so no apparent misprints.
