  1. 1 See Glossary of terms for definitions. Data in this table are based on unfair labor practice cases that were closed during fiscal year 1988 after the company and/or union had satisfied all remedial action requirements.
  2. 2 A single case usually results in more than one remedial action; therefore, the total number of actions exceeds the number of cases involved.

207 of 208 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out. 1 cell breaks a sum: 'A. By number of cases involved', column 2: prints 10,281, the subtotals in columns 3 to 9 add to 0.

Reader’s notes

p. 208. 14 columns: stub, "Total all", then six Employer columns and six Union columns. The crop ends at "Objections to employment withdrawn" (last row of section B shown); the table continues below the crop, so no footnote text is visible even though reference marks 1 (on the caption) and 2 (on 10,281) are printed. In row A the "2" is a raised footnote marker printed in front of 10,281, transcribed as 10,281^2. Long dash rules (e.g. the Union columns of the employer-only rows) are rendered as empty cells; printed zeros are kept as 0. All internal sums check out (component columns add to the Employer/Union totals, and those add to "Total all") in every row, so no misprint is suspected. The right margin carries the running head "Appendix" and page number 195, excluded as instructed.

p. 209. The crop is a continuation page ("—Continued"): the body begins mid-section, so the rows belonging to sections A and B (and the top of the "Employees receiving backpay" block's parent heading) appear on the preceding page. Footnote 2 is printed under the table but no raised 2 marker appears anywhere on this crop; it must attach to text on the earlier page. 14 columns: stub, "Total all", then six Employer columns and six Union columns. The dollar signs are printed only on the "C. By amounts of monetary recovery, total" line, not on the two rows beneath it, and are transcribed as printed. All printed totals check out arithmetically (row and column sums are internally consistent), so no suspected misprints. No cells were illegible; faint speckles in the upper-left of the header box are scan artifacts, not text.
