179 of 183 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out. 1 cell breaks a sum: 'Otherwise (compliance with ord', column 2: prints 65, the subtotals in columns 5 to 17 add to 67.

Reader’s notes

p. 220. Grid is 18 columns: stub + 3 columns for "All C cases" (Number, Percent of total closed, Percent of total method) + 2 columns each (Number, Percent of total closed) for CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP. The crop is cut off at the bottom: the table continues past the "Circuit court of appeals decree" row (a partial line of type is visible below it), so later method/stage rows and any footnotes printed under the table are not on this image. The caption carries a raised footnote marker 1, but the footnote text itself is not in the crop. Faint/dropped decimal points: the 300-ppi scan loses the decimal point in a number of percent cells, which print as e.g. "100 0", "8 7", "13 5", "0 1", "7 4", "0 9", "0 0". I have transcribed these with the decimal point (100.0, 8.7, 13.5, 0.1, 7.4, 0.9, 0.0), since the digit groups and column alignment make the one-decimal format unambiguous. Affected cells: Total number of cases closed / All C Percent of total closed; Agreement of the parties / All C Percent of total method; Before issuance of complaint / CE Percent; Formal settlement / CC Percent; After issuance of complaint, before opening of hearing (formal) / CE Percent; Stipulated decision (first) / CG Percent; Consent decree (first) / CB Percent; After hearing opened / CA Percent; Stipulated decision (second) / CB Percent and CG Percent; Consent decree (second) / CP Percent; Administrative law judge's decision / All C Percent of total method; Board decision / CG Percent; Contested / CC Percent. "Total number of cases closed", All C "Percent of total method" column: the cell reads 0.0 (not blank and not 100.0). This appears to be a misprint — the column is otherwise a within-method percentage — but it is transcribed as printed. "Before issuance of complaint", CD cases: the Number cell contains only a small raised glyph, which I read as a footnote marker 2 (it could also be a 3; it is not a full-size digit), and the adjoining CD Percent cell holds a long dash rule, transcribed as "". The surrounding arithmetic (CD agreement = 2, CD after-issuance = 2) implies the underlying count here is 0, so the raised glyph is almost certainly a reference mark rather than a value; the referenced footnote is not visible in this crop. Row labels that wrapped over two or three printed lines have been joined and end-of-line hyphens repaired ("hear- ing" -> "hearing", "administra- tive" -> "administrative"). Leader dots and the trailing period after "Administrative law judge's decision" have been dropped. "Compliance with" is printed with trailing leader dots and no further wording. Indentation levels are not preserved in the stub text; note that "Stipulated decision" and "Consent decree" each appear twice (under "After issuance of complaint, before opening of hearing" and under "After hearing opened" within Formal settlement).

p. 221. Layout: 18 columns — stub plus "All C cases" (Number, Percent of total closed, Percent of total method) and seven two-column case-type panels (CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), each Number / Percent of total closed. Continuation page: the first body row, "Supreme Court action", is the tail of a method block that begins on the previous page (it carries a "Percent of total method" value of 0.3 with no total row above it on this crop). No footnote text is legible on this crop — a line of faint, clipped character tops is visible below the bottom rule, so the table's footnotes are cut off by the crop and `footnotes` is empty. Doubtful cells, CD cases: in both "Before issuance of complaint" rows (under Withdrawal and under Dismissal) the CD "Number" cell holds only a small raised character, read as a superscript 2, with no digits beside it, and the adjoining CD "Percent of total closed" cell holds a long dash. I transcribed these as "^2" (footnote marker, no value) and "" (dash). The reading is supported by the arithmetic: the Withdrawal CD total is 0 and 7,194+2,244+353+0+19+13+105 = 9,928 matches the printed All C total, so the raised mark cannot be a value of 2; likewise the Dismissal CD total of 1 is fully accounted for by the "By circuit court of appeals decree" row. The marker sits left of the column rule, i.e. in the Number column, but it may in the original belong to the dash printed in the Percent column. Suspected misprint, transcribed as printed: in the last row, "Otherwise (compliance with order ... firm went out of business)", All C Number is printed 65 while the case-type columns give 64 (CA) + 2 (CB) + 1 (CC) = 67. Scan quality: many decimal points failed to print or were lost in the scan, so the image shows a space where a point belongs — e.g. "0 7" (All C Percent of total closed, "After issuance of complaint, before opening of hearing" under Withdrawal), "0 9" and "0 0" in the "After hearing opened..." row, "100 0" and "91 6" and "12 5" in the Dismissal block, "32 2" (CE) and "43 3" (CG) in the Withdrawal row, "3 0" (CB, "By Board decision"), "0 1" (All C, "After hearing opened..." under Dismissal). These are transcribed with the decimal point, consistent with the neighbouring values and with the percentage bases implied by each column.
