  1. 1 See Glossary of terms for definitions.
  2. 2 The States are grouped according to the 10 Standard Federal Administrative Regions.

786 of 786 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 217. The crop cuts the table off at the bottom: it ends partway through the Region IV block (last printed row is North Carolina), with no Region IV total and no further regions. No footnote text is printed on this crop, although footnote markers appear in the caption (which is excluded) and on the stub heading "Standard Federal Regions^2"; the texts for markers 1 and 2 must be on a later part of the page. Region II, "All R cases" column: the leading digit is marred by a scan artifact and prints roughly as "I,051"; transcribed as 1,051, which is confirmed by the column sum (21+301+652+68+9 = 1,051) and by the row sum (4,340+1,051+26+1+76 = 5,494). Stray ink specks sit in the blank spacer rows above Delaware (near the CD column) and above the Region II "RD" value; they are printing noise, not digits. All three complete region blocks (I, II, III) were cross-checked: every region total equals the sum of its states in every column, and in each row All cases = All C + All R + UD + AC + UC, and All C = CA+CB+CC+CD+CE+CG+CP. The six Region IV rows present also balance internally. No discrepancies found.

p. 218. Continuation page of Table 6B (caption reads "—Continued"); the crop begins mid-table with South Carolina and Tennessee, the last two states of Region IV, so earlier regions are on the preceding page. 17 columns: stub, "All cases", eight C columns, four R columns, and UD/AC/UC. The headings in columns 1-13 ("All cases", "All C cases", CA...RD) span the second and third heading levels, so they are repeated in both; only the last three columns print a separate third-level line (UD, AC, UC). The stub heading carries a raised 2 footnote marker; the caption's raised 1 is omitted with the caption. No footnote text appears on this crop — the footnote block, the Region VIII subtotal and anything after the Wyoming row fall below the bottom edge. The Wyoming row sits flush against the crop's lower border but is fully legible. Row labels are followed by leader dots, dropped here; "Indiana" is printed as "Indiana ." with a stray mark before the leaders. No printed value is doubtful: every state row's C-detail, R-detail and all-cases total, and every Region IV-VII subtotal, reproduce exactly as printed, so no misprints are suspected.

p. 219. This page continues Table 6B from the preceding page: the first body row is the "Region VIII" subtotal line, whose component States were printed earlier, so no State rows precede it here. The header has three printed levels; "Union deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases" and "Unit clarification cases" are the spanning labels over the single code columns UD, AC and UC respectively, and "All cases" / "All C cases" / "All R cases" are tall headings repeated down the levels. All printed figures are internally consistent: each region subtotal equals the sum of its State rows, and each row's "All cases" equals All C + All R + UD + AC + UC, so no misprints are suspected. Idaho's 13 under CD with 0 under CC is unusual but reproduces the print and is confirmed by the Region X subtotal (CD = 19 = 0+13+0+6). The scan shows a stray ink mark in the leader dots after "Washington"; it is not a footnote marker and is omitted.
