690 of 690 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 211. The crop is the first page of the table: it ends with the "Manufacturing" subtotal line and the table continues on the following page(s), so no footnote texts appear on this image even though markers are printed (superscript 1 on the caption and superscript 2 on the stub heading "Industrial group"). Column structure: 17 columns. "Unfair labor practice cases" spans the eight columns All C cases through CP; "Representation cases" spans All R cases through RD; the last three spanner headings ("Union deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases", "Unit clarification cases") sit over the single code columns UD, AC and UC, which are printed on a third heading level. Doubtful/scanner artifacts, all resolved: in the "Food and kindred products" row the CP cell is printed as "1" followed by a stray comma-like speck ("1,"); transcribed as 1. Similar stray specks/dashes sit beside the UC values for "Apparel and other finished products..." (0), "Furniture and fixtures" (5) and "Fabricated metal products..." (6); they are not digits or minus signs. All sixteen numeric columns were cross-checked: each row's component cells sum to its "All C cases", "All R cases" and "All cases" entries, and every column sums exactly to the printed "Manufacturing" subtotal. The unusually large AC value of 14 for "Lumber and wood products (except furniture)" is confirmed by the AC column total of 27.

p. 212. The crop is a continuation page ("—Continued" in the caption) and is cut off at the bottom: the body ends mid-table with "Museums, art galleries, and botanical and zoological gardens"; the remaining rows (including any services subtotal, further industry groups and grand total) and any footnote texts are on the following page, so `footnotes` is empty even though footnote markers 1 (caption) and 2 (stub heading "Industrial group") appear. Column layout: 17 columns — stub, "All cases", eight unfair-labor-practice columns (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), four representation columns (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), and three single columns whose tall headings sit over a third header level giving the case symbols UD, AC and UC. The three-level header is reflected by repeating tall headings down the levels. Scan artifacts, read as noted: in the "Transportation, communication, and other utilities" row the UC cell shows a stray apostrophe-like speck before the digits; read as 51 (column sums to 51). In the "Museums, art galleries, and botanical and zoological gardens" row the "All C cases" cell is preceded by two stray specks ("· · 4"); read as 4 (1 + 3 = 4). Similar isolated specks sit near the UC cells of "Membership organizations" (16) and "Business services" (13) and near the CG/UD area of "Motion pictures"; none were treated as digits or footnote markers. Row labels are printed with trailing leader dots, which have been dropped; the two-line label "Local and suburban transit and interurban highway passenger transportation" was joined into one row. Indentation distinguishes the group subtotal lines ("Mining", "Transportation, communication, and other utilities") and the one-line divisions ("Construction", "Wholesale trade", "Retail trade", "Finance, insurance, and real estate", "U.S. Postal Service") from the detail lines, but indentation is not representable in the grid. Nothing was computed or corrected, but as a transcription check every row was verified to be internally consistent: CA+CB+CC+CD+CE+CG+CP = All C cases, RC+RM+RD = All R cases, and All C + All R + UD + AC + UC = All cases, in all 29 rows; both subtotal rows also equal the sum of their detail rows in every column. No misprints detected.

p. 213. This crop is the final portion of a table continued from earlier pages (caption reads "—Continued"), so the body begins mid-list: only the last two detail lines of the Services group ("Social services", "Miscellaneous services"), the "Services" group total, the "Public administration" line and the grand total "Total, all industrial groups" are present. The "Services" and "Public administration" rows are printed with a deeper indent than the detail lines and are set off by horizontal rules; the indentation is not preserved in the stub text. 17 columns: stub, "All cases", eight unfair-labor-practice columns, four representation columns, and three single columns (UD, AC, UC) whose spanner headings ("Union deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases", "Unit clarification cases") occupy the top two heading levels with the two-letter code on the third level. All figures are legible and every row sums correctly: the C-type columns add to "All C cases", RC+RM+RD add to "All R cases", and All C + All R + UD + AC + UC add to "All cases" in each of the five rows, which supports the column placement. Minor scan artefacts: in footnote 2 the periods in "D.C.," are faint/partly dropped in the scan (it reads close to "D.C ,"); transcribed as the intended "D.C.,". Stray ink specks appear above the CA column in the "Social services" row and in the blank area left of the "Public administration" label; these are not characters. Headings carry the dotless-i typeface defects typical of this scan ("Industrıal", "Unfaır"), transcribed with normal spelling.
