Reader’s notes

p. 156. The table has 8 columns: stub, Total, and six columns under the spanner "Identification of filing party" (AFL-CIO unions, Teamsters, Other national unions, Other local unions, Individuals, Employers). The stub column has no printed heading, so the stub cell is empty in both heading levels; "Total" is a tall heading spanning both levels and is repeated. The asterisk footnote marker is printed to the LEFT of the Total figure in each of the seven "Pending October 1, 1984" rows (e.g. the page prints "*13,791"); following the marker convention it is transcribed after the value as 13,791^*. No other cells carry markers. The seven centered panel headings (CA cases, CB cases, CC cases, CD cases, CE cases, CG cases, CP cases) are label-only section lines spanning the table; their value cells are empty. This is a single stacked table, not side-by-side panels. All 35 data rows were checked: in every row the six filing-party columns sum exactly to the printed Total, so column assignment and digits are internally consistent. Punctuation in the footnotes: the scan shows no period after "definitions", after "Sept" in "Sept 30, 1984", or after "annual report" before "Revised totals". These light periods are most likely lost in the 1-bit scan rather than genuinely absent; they are transcribed as visible (omitted) rather than reconstructed. The dotless-i artifact of this typeface/scan ("ın", "fılıng") has been read as normal "i". Minor legibility notes, none affecting the reading: the "1" digits in several small-count cells (e.g. CC cases Pending September 30, 1985 Teamsters and Other national unions, both read as 1) are printed in an old-style face without a clear serif foot, but are unambiguous in context and confirmed by the row sums. A stray ink speck appears above the Total cell of the CP cases "Pending October 1, 1984" row and is not a character.
