The six centered section labels ("All cases", "Unfair labor practice cases^2", "Representation cases^3", "Union-shop deauthorization cases", "Amendment of certification cases", "Unit clarification cases") are printed as banner lines spanning the table; they are given as label-only rows. The asterisk is printed immediately BEFORE each "Pending October 1, 1984" Total figure (*20,437, *17,655, *2,571, *60, *7, *144); per convention it is transcribed after the value as ^*. DOUBTFUL CELL: "Unfair labor practice cases" / "Closed fiscal 1985" / AFL-CIO unions. I read the glyphs as 10,376 and transcribed them as read, but three independent checks all imply the printed figure is 10,326: (a) the row sums to 33,996 against the printed row total of 33,946; (b) on docket 16,595 minus closed gives 6,219 against the printed pending Sept. 30 figure of 6,269; (c) the AFL-CIO closed figures for the five case types sum to 13,704 against the 13,654 printed in the "All cases" panel. The third digit is likely a 2 blurred by the image downscale rather than a misprint; a reader should verify that cell against the original page. Every other cell checks out: all section rows cross-foot to their Total column, on docket minus closed equals pending in every column, and the five case-type panels sum to the "All cases" panel in all seven columns. In the Union-shop deauthorization panel the five filing-party columns other than Individuals hold dash rules (---), recorded as "". Amendment-of-certification and Unit-clarification cells that print a true zero are kept as 0. Footnote sentences on this page have very faint or dropped terminal periods in the scan; they are written out with normal sentence periods.
