Size of Units in Representation Elections in Cases Closed, Fiscal Year 1984

p. 238. 15 columns: stub + 4 single columns + 8 under "Elections in which representation rights were won by" + 2 under "Elections in which no representative was chosen". Decimal points: the thin periods in the percent columns do not resolve at this scan resolution (values appear as "100 0", "22 9"). They are unambiguously decimal points given the arithmetic, and are transcribed as such (100.0, 22.9, ...). The same loss of periods affects the section line, which I read as "A. Certification elections (RC and RM)"; only the "A" and the following gap are clearly visible, so the period there is inferred. "Total elections" column heading: a small raised mark sits inside that column box just under the top rule, well above the word "Total". It may be a footnote marker (shape suggests a "1" or "4") or a scan speck/bleed-through; because it is not attached to the heading text and is not legible, I left it out of the heading rather than guess a marker. There is a similar stray mark in the left margin beside the "Under 10" row, which supports the speck reading. No footnotes are printed within the crop. "Other local unions" sub-heading reads "Percent of size class", not "Percent by size class" as in the other four percent-by-class columns; transcribed as printed. Total row, "Cumulative percent of total": a dash rule ("——") is printed there, transcribed as "". Arithmetic checks all pass, which supports the column assignment: "Number eligible to vote" sums to exactly 211,696; "Total elections" sums to exactly 3,561; each row's four winner counts plus the no-representative count equals that row's total elections; every percent column sums to 100.0; and the cumulative column equals the running sum of "Percent of total". Two Teamsters percentages round up unusually (39/424 printed as 9.3 and 22/424 printed as 5.3, vs. 9.2 and 5.2 unrounded), but they are needed for that column to reach 100.0 and are transcribed as printed. The crop ends immediately below the "2,000 to 2,999" row, which is the last size class of panel A (the column totals are already fully accounted for). Any further panels (B, C) and any footnotes printed below are cut off by the crop.

p. 239. Decimal points: this 1-bit scan has dropped nearly every period, so the percent columns render as e.g. \"34 9\", \"100 0\". These are unambiguously 34.9 and 100.0 (the columns are one-decimal percentages throughout), and I have written the decimal point back in rather than reproducing the scan's gap. No digits were altered. The same loss affects the period after \"B\" in the section line and the period ending the footnote, both of which I restored.\n\nTwo cells where my reading disagrees with the column arithmetic, transcribed as I read them rather than corrected:\n- Row \"10 to 19\", Teamsters / Percent by size class: I read 26.1, but 11 of the 42 Teamster wins is 26.19, which rounds to 26.2 under the rounding used everywhere else in this panel. Either a misprint or a misread of the final digit.\n- Row \"40 to 49\", Other local unions / Percent of size class: I read 22.9, but 5 of the 22 other-local wins is 22.73, i.e. 22.7.
