Reader’s notes

p. 199. The crop ends mid-table: the last printed row on this image is Maryland, and the South Atlantic division (and all later divisions, plus the U.S. total) continue on the rest of the page/following page. No footnote texts appear within the crop, although footnote markers are printed in the caption ("Fiscal Year 1984^1") and in the stub heading ("Division and State^2"); the footnote block must lie below the crop. Column structure: 17 columns — stub, "All cases", eight unfair-labor-practice columns (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), four representation columns (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), and three single columns whose group heading and code heading occupy separate levels (UD, AC, UC). The division subtotal rows (New England, Middle Atlantic, East North Central, West North Central) are printed indented and set off by rules; indentation was not preserved in the labels. In the New England subtotal row there is a small stray ink mark just left of the RM value 12; the value itself reads 12. All rows were cross-checked arithmetically: every state's C components sum to its "All C cases", its R components to "All R cases", and the five case-type columns to "All cases"; each division subtotal equals the sum of its member states in every column. No internal inconsistencies were found, which corroborates the digit readings (including Illinois UC = 8 and Nebraska UC = 0).

p. 200. Continuation page of Table 6A (the caption carries "—Continued"), so the table is cut off at both ends: the South Atlantic division's member states Delaware and Maryland are printed on the earlier page, and the Mountain division total is the last row on this crop with further divisions following on the next page. Footnote markers 1 (caption) and 2 ("Division and State") appear, but no footnote text is printed on this crop. Column layout: 17 columns. Under "Unfair labor practice cases" the subheads are All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP; under "Representation cases" they are All R cases, RC, RM, RD; the last three columns carry tall headings with the codes UD, AC, UC on the lowest heading level. "All cases" and the stub heading span all three heading levels and are repeated accordingly. Doubtful/stray marks: in the Florida row, a short dash-like mark sits just left of the RM value 5 (transcribed as "5"); row arithmetic confirms it, since RC 142 + RM 5 + RD 25 = All R 172. A faint tick precedes "186" in the Montana row (All cases); the Mountain column total 2,469 confirms the value is 186. Isolated stray specks also appear in the blank stub area beside the "West South Central" and "Mountain" labels; they are scan artifacts, not data. All row totals and all division totals (for East South Central, West South Central and Mountain, whose member states are fully printed here) add exactly as transcribed; the South Atlantic totals could not be fully checked because two of its states are on the prior page.

p. 201. This is a continuation page ("—Continued") of Table 6A: the body begins mid-table with the last States of the Pacific division, so the earlier divisions and States appear on preceding pages. Column headings are printed on this page and are transcribed. The table has 17 printed columns. The last three columns carry two-level headings ("Union deauthorization cases" over "UD", "Amendment of certification cases" over "AC", "Unit clarification cases" over "UC"); the "Division and State", "All cases", "All C cases", "CA"–"CP" and "All R cases", "RC", "RM", "RD" headings are tall single headings and are repeated across the heading levels they span. Row-label indentation in the original marks the hierarchy: "Pacific" is the division subtotal for the six preceding States, "Outlying areas" the subtotal for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and "Total, all States and areas" the grand total for the whole table. All subtotals on this page (Pacific and Outlying areas) add correctly down each column as printed; the grand total covers rows not shown in this crop and was not checked. Footnote text as printed omits periods after abbreviations ("U S Department of Commerce", "terms" with no final period); transcribed as printed. The footnote marker 2 on the stub heading "Division and State" and marker 1 in the caption (caption not transcribed) both appear as raised figures.
