808 of 809 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out. 2 cells break a sum: 'Legal services', column 3: prints 6, columns 4 to 7 add to 7; 'Services', column 6: prints 22, rows 'Hotels, rooming hous' to 'Miscellaneous servic' add to 23.

Reader’s notes

p. 225. The crop ends just below the "Manufacturing" subtotal rule; the start of a further row is visible at the very bottom edge, so the table continues (nonmanufacturing industry groups) beyond this image. The stub heading carries footnote marker 1 ("Industrial group ^1"), but the footnote text itself is not printed within the crop, so `footnotes` is empty. Arithmetic check: all 16 numeric columns sum exactly to the printed "Manufacturing" subtotal, and in every data row the four union breakdowns sum to the printed "Total" won and Total won + no-representative = Total elections. No misprints detected. Doubtful cell: "Electrical and electronic machinery, equipment, and supplies", Teamsters column (elections won) — the scan shows a small isolated dot immediately left of the figure ("· 5"). I read it as a speck/ink artifact and transcribed 5; the column total of 155 confirms 5 is correct. A faint partial mark appears at the extreme right edge of the image beside the header band, outside the last column rule; it is bleed-through/adjacent-page debris, not a table column, and is excluded.

p. 226. This crop is a continuation page: no column headings are printed on it (only the column rules at the top edge), so header_rows is empty. The grid has 17 columns (stub + 16 numeric columns), confirmed by counting the column rules and by every body row carrying exactly 16 values. Row-label line breaks joined and end-of-line hyphens repaired: "Mining and quarrying of nonmetallic / minerals (except fuels)", "Local and suburban transit and interur- / ban highway passenger transportation" -> "interurban", "Motor freight transportation and ware- / housing" -> "warehousing", "Transportation, communication, / and other utilities", "Hotels, rooming houses, camps, and / other lodging places", "Amusement and recreation services / (except motion pictures)", "Museums, art galleries, botanical and / zoological gardens". "Mining" and "Transportation, communication, and other utilities" are division-total rows (set off by rules above and below); the rows "Construction", "Wholesale trade", "Retail trade", "Finance, insurance, and real estate" and "U.S. Postal Service" are printed at the same (deeper) indentation as those totals, i.e. each is its own one-line division. Indentation is not reproduced in the labels. Doubtful cells: the stub label printed as "U S Postal Service" — the periods in "U.S." are not legible at this scan resolution; transcribed as "U.S. Postal Service". Likewise the periods are faint throughout, and "Finance, insurance, and real estate" is set with tight spacing ("and real estate" nearly run together). In the "Health services" row the value 16,424 is printed hard against the column rule to its left but clearly belongs to column 10 (the column holding 60 / 544 / 936 / 1,714 above it). The table is cut off by the crop: the services division shown at the bottom continues past "Legal services" on the next page, and its division-total line is not on this image. A small stray ink tick appears in the right margin level with the "Other transportation" row and another in the left margin level with "Business services"; both are scan artifacts, not data. Nothing was computed or corrected; all values are as printed.

p. 227. Crop is the final page of a continued table (caption reads "Table 16.—Industrial Distribution of Representation Elections Held in Cases Closed, Fiscal Year 1983—Continued"), so the earlier industrial-group rows are on preceding pages; only the last two detail lines of the Services division, the "Services" division subtotal, "Public administration", and the grand total appear here. In the printed layout "Social services" and "Miscellaneous services" are flush-left detail lines, while "Services", "Public administration" and "Total, all industrial groups" are indented subtotal/total lines set off by rules; the indentation is not reproduced in the labels. Punctuation after "Source" in the footnote is not legible in the scan (likely a colon); the word spacing is reproduced as a single space. All rows are internally consistent (union components sum to the union totals, and union plus no-union sums to the totals), so no misprints are suspected. Image is a 1-bit scan in which periods/commas are thin, but every digit read here was legible.
