Verification: all three subtotal rows (South Atlantic, East South Central, West South Central) were checked against the sum of their component state rows in every one of the 16 numeric columns, and all 48 column sums agree exactly with the printed subtotals. "Mountain", "Pacific" and "Outlying Areas" are indented subtotal lines; "Total, all States and areas" is the grand total. Column alignment was verified arithmetically and is internally consistent everywhere: in every row col1 = col2 + col7, col2 = col3+col4+col5+col6, col9 = col10 + col15, and col10 = col11+col12+col13+col14; the Mountain, Pacific, Outlying Areas and grand-total lines also equal the sums of their member rows in all 16 columns.
