Final Outcome of Representation Elections in Cases Closed, Fiscal Year 1983

p. 210. 16 columns: stub + 15 value columns, as set by the column rules and the three heading levels ("Elections won by unions" over 6 columns, "Employees eligible to vote" over 6, with "In units won by" over the last 4 of those). The crop holds only panel "A. All representation elections"; the table continues past the bottom rule (panel B and the footnotes keyed by the raised 1 on the caption and the raised 2 on "Total elections" are not on this image), so `footnotes` is empty. Period rendering: at this scan resolution the typographic periods are very faint or dropped, so the "Percent won" cells read as e.g. "41 4" and the stub labels as "AFL-CIO v AFL-CIO". They are decimal points and abbreviation periods in the printed original (the column is one-decimal percentages throughout), and I have transcribed them as "41.4" and "AFL-CIO v. AFL-CIO". Likewise the section line reads "A All representation elections" on the image and is given as "A. All representation elections". "Total representation elections", column "Other local unions" under "In units won by": the leading digit is clipped by the column rule and could be read as "8,057"; it is 18,057 (1-union 9,700 + 2-union 6,170 + 3-or-more 2,187 = 18,057). The AFL-CIO hyphen is set as an en dash on the page; transcribed as a plain hyphen. "Local" is capitalised only in the row "AFL-CIO v. AFL-CIO v. Local", as printed. Nothing was computed or corrected: every subtotal and total row checked out against its component rows, and each row's "Percent won" matches its own "Total won" over "Total elections", so no misprint is suspected.

p. 211. 16 columns. Scan quality: this page is a coarse bitonal scan in which thin marks (periods) are largely lost. In the "Percent won" column the decimal points are not visible (the cells read e.g. "47 8", "100 0"); I have transcribed them as decimals ("47.8", "100.0") because every value matches Total won / Total elections to one decimal place. For the same reason I wrote the section line as "B. Elections in RC cases"; only "B" followed by a blank space is legible before "Elections in RC cases". The "v" separating union names in the two- and three-union row labels is printed with no visible period, so it is transcribed bare ("AFL-CIO v Teamsters"); it may be "v." in the original. Hyphen-like strokes in "AFL-CIO" print as en dashes in this scan; transcribed with a plain hyphen. The single-union block is set as a staircase (each union's wins printed only under its own column), so the empty cells in those four rows are genuinely blank in the original, not illegible. No footnote text appears in this crop, although footnote marker 1 (on the caption) and marker 2 (on "Total elections") are present; the footnotes for this table are presumably printed on the first page of the table. Arithmetic check: every subtotal and the "Total RC elections" row reconcile exactly with their component rows and columns, as do the "In units won by" components against "In elections won", so no misprint is suspected.

p. 212. Continuation page: no column headings are printed on this crop, so header_rows is empty. The grid has 16 columns (stub + 15 data columns), counted from the column rules; columns 4-7 and columns 11-14 are "staggered" sets in which each union-affiliation row carries a value in only one of the four columns, with the remaining three blank. Column placement was verified by adding each staggered column down to its "1-union elections" / "2-union elections" subtotal and its "Total RM elections" / "Total RD elections" line; every one of the 15 columns reconciles in both panels, so column assignment is well supported. Periods are systematically lost in this 1-bit scan. The percent column (column 2) prints as "19 4", "100 0", "87 5", "22 7", "33 3", etc.; these are one-decimal percentages and have been transcribed with the decimal point restored (19.4, 100.0, 87.5, 22.7, 33.3, ...). For consistency the dropped period is also restored after the section letters ("C. Elections in RM cases", "D. Elections in RD cases") and after the versus abbreviation in the two-union row labels ("AFL-CIO v. Teamsters"); on the image these read "C Elections in RM cases" and "AFL-CIO v Teamsters" with a blank where the period should be. The two footnote sentences likewise show no terminal period on the image; periods were added there as well. "AFL-CIO" is set with a dash that scans heavier than a hyphen; transcribed with a plain hyphen throughout. There is a small stray tick in the "1-union elections" row of panel C, in the white space of column 12 just above the 573, at roughly the level of the horizontal rule. It is not a digit and appears to be a scan speck or an ink fragment from the rule; it has been ignored. No footnote markers are attached to any value, row label or section heading in this crop; the two footnotes refer to headings printed on an earlier page of the table.
