Reader’s notes
p. 209. 15 columns: stub plus three top-level panels (Number of polls, 5 cols; Employees involved, 5 cols; Valid votes cast, 4 cols). The header has four levels; "Total" (col 1), "Total eligible" (col 6), "Total" (col 11) and "Percent of total eligible" (col 12) are tall single headings spanning levels 2-4, and "Resulting in deauthorization"/"Resulting in continued authorization" over cols 2-5 span levels 2-3. The scan has dropped nearly all small dots: the dots over lowercase i's are missing throughout ("Affiliation", "union", "deauthorization" all print dotless), and likewise the decimal points in the percent columns, which appear as a gap ("67 1", "32 9"). I have restored them as decimal points; every value checks out arithmetically against its own row (e.g. 51/76 = 67.1, 25/76 = 32.9, 2,526/3,158 = 80.0, 14/17 = 82.4), so the reading is secure. Likewise the period after "Sec" in the footnote is not visible but is implied. All column and row sums are internally consistent: 50+17+4+5 = 76; 32+14+3+2 = 51; 18+3+1+3 = 25; 2,017+326+45+770 = 3,158; 957+217+26+477 = 1,677; 1,060+109+19+293 = 1,481; 1,588+287+40+611 = 2,526; 725+262+13+307 = 1,307. No misprints detected. The raised 1 on "Employees involved (number eligible to vote)" is the footnote marker, recorded as ^1. In the footnote line the spacing around "8 (a)(3)" is uncertain; it may be set as "8(a)(3)" or "8 (a) (3)".
