The crop ends mid-table: the South Atlantic block is cut off after Virginia (no South Atlantic subtotal and no later divisions are shown), and no footnote text is visible, so `footnotes` is empty even though the stub heading carries a raised "1" marker. Doubtful cell: row "New England", column "Number of elections in which representation rights were won by unions / Teamsters". It is printed (and transcribed) as 38, but the six state entries above it sum to 33 (Maine 1 + New Hampshire 1 + Vermont 1 + Massachusetts 19 + Rhode Island 1 + Connecticut 10), and the New England row's own components only reconcile with 33 (73 + 33 + 1 + 21 = 128, the printed Total; 73 + 38 + 1 + 21 = 133). This is either a misprint in the source or a 3/8 confusion in the scan; I transcribed the glyph as it appears. All other cross-checks pass: every division subtotal (New England, Middle Atlantic, East North Central, West North Central) equals the sum of its member states in all 16 numeric columns, each state's union-won Total equals AFL-CIO + Teamsters + other national + other local, and Total elections equals union-won Total plus "no representative chosen" throughout. Headings that span several columns or levels are repeated per the instructions. "AFL- CIO unions" is joined as "AFL-CIO unions" (the printed break is an end-of-line hyphen in the abbreviation). Leader dots after state names were dropped, including the stray dots printed tight against "Vermont", "Michigan", "North Dakota", "District of Columbia" and "Virginia".

This is a continuation page of Table 15A; the crop ends just below the "Mountain" subtotal row, where the top rule of the next section (Pacific division states) is visible but no further rows are legible. The table therefore continues beyond this image, and no footnote texts are printed on this crop even though the stub heading carries a raised "1" marker. The "South Atlantic" subtotal covers states listed on the preceding page as well as the five shown here, so it does not equal the sum of the rows above it on this image. The "East South Central", "West South Central" and "Mountain" subtotals do reconcile exactly with the state rows printed above each of them in all 16 numeric columns, and in every state row the four union sub-columns sum to the corresponding "Total" and union total plus "no union" votes equal "Total valid votes cast" — these checks were used to confirm column alignment. The two "AFL-CIO" sub-headings differ as printed: under "Number of elections ... won by unions" it reads "AFL-CIO unions", while under "Valid votes cast for unions" it reads "AFL-CIO" alone. In the original the abbreviation uses an en-dash-like rule ("AFL–CIO"); transcribed with a plain hyphen. North Carolina, Teamsters (elections won) column: the glyph is slightly degraded but reads 329, which is consistent with 14+5+0+0 = 19 elections only in the elections panel; note 329 belongs to the "Valid votes cast for unions / Teamsters" column, where 1,809+329+156+0 = 2,294 confirms it. Blank separator lines between divisions are rule-only and are not transcribed as rows.

p. 312. The crop is a continuation page: no column headings are printed on it, so header_rows is empty. The grid has 17 columns (stub + 16 numeric columns), counted from the column rules, which are consistent across every row. The table's earlier rows (the other Census regions and the start of the Pacific group) are on preceding pages and are not in this crop. "Pacific" and "Outlying Areas" are indented subtotal rows, printed below horizontal rules; "Total, all States and areas" is the grand-total row below a double rule. Arithmetic check: both subtotal rows add exactly across all 16 columns to their member rows (Pacific = Washington+Oregon+California+Alaska+Hawaii+Guam; Outlying Areas = Puerto Rico+Virgin Islands), which confirms the column assignment of every value. The scan is a 1-bit image in which the dot of an "i" and small periods often drop out; row labels read "Hawaii", "Virgin Islands", "Puerto Rico", "California", "Washington". In the footnote, the abbreviation printed before "Department of Commerce" is transcribed as "U S" because the periods are not legible in the scan (they are likely present as "U.S." in the original), and no terminal period is visible at the end of the footnote sentence. In the Virgin Islands row, the 13th numeric column holds a 0 whose impression carries a stray descender mark from the line below; it is read as 0, consistent with the Outlying Areas subtotal of 51 (= 51 + 0).
