Reader’s notes
p. 303. 15 columns: stub plus three spanner groups (Number of polls, 5 cols; Employees involved, 5 cols; Valid votes cast, 4 cols). Four heading levels; the tall single headings (stub, "Total", "Total eligible", "Percent of total eligible", "Cast for deauthorization", "Resulting in deauthorization"/"Resulting in continued authorization" under "Number of polls") are repeated down the levels they span. Periods print very faintly in this scan and are largely lost at the resolution available: the percent cells appear as e.g. "61 8", "38 2", "56 0". These are decimal fractions (the paired percentages sum to 100.0 in every row, and the derived ratios match the counts), so I have transcribed them with decimal points: 61.8, 38.2, 56.0, etc. The same period loss affects the footnote, where "Sec 8(a)(3)" is almost certainly "Sec. 8(a)(3)" and the sentence-final period is not visible; I have restored both. All internal arithmetic checks out (component rows sum to the Total row in every count column; "Resulting in deauthorization" plus "Resulting in continued authorization" equals "Total eligible" in each row), so no misprints are suspected. The row label is printed "AFL-CIO unions"; the scan's hyphen renders long enough to look like an en dash, but it is a plain hyphen.
