727 of 727 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 196. The crop ends in mid-table: the body stops after the four mining rows (the mining group subtotal and all later industry divisions continue on the following page), and no footnote texts are printed on this image, so `footnotes` is empty even though markers 1 (caption) and 2 ("Industrial group") appear. The caption's marker 1 is excluded with the caption itself; the stub heading retains its marker as "Industrial group^2". Verification: every one of the 16 numeric columns was summed over the 22 manufacturing industry rows and each matches the printed "Manufacturing" subtotal exactly (All cases 21,480; All C 16,905; CA 12,526; CB 3,841; CC 355; CD 98; CE 23; CG 2; CP 60; All R 4,347; RC 3,442; RM 216; RD 689; UD 87; AC 16; UC 125). The four mining rows are also internally consistent (C components sum to All C, and All C + All R + UD + AC + UC equals All cases in each). No misprints found. Two cells were faint but are resolved by those checks: the UC cell of "Paper and allied products" (ambiguous 5/6 in the scan; the column total requires 5) and the RM cell of "Mining and quarrying of nonmetallic minerals (except fuels)", which carries a printing smudge resembling a vertical stroke after the digit but reads 9 and is required to be 9 by that row's R breakdown (27 + 9 + 3 = 39). Row-label line breaks were joined as instructed; the "Manufacturing" row is a subtotal set off by rules above and below, printed indented, and is transcribed with its label alone.

p. 197. The crop is a continuation page: no column headings are printed, so header_rows is empty. The grid has a stub plus 16 numeric columns, confirmed by the full-width "Mining" and "Total, all industrial groups" rows; blank-looking gaps in short rows were checked against the vertical column rules. Punctuation note: in this 1-bit scan the small periods of abbreviations are largely dropped by the rendering. The stub label at row 6 reads "U S Postal Service" and footnote 2 reads "Source Standard ... Washington, D C , 1972"; I have written these as "U.S. Postal Service", "Source:" and "D.C.," on the assumption the dots are a scan artifact rather than genuinely absent. Footnote 1's terminal period is likewise not visible. The label after "Mining" carries a stray isolated dot (a surviving leader dot), which I dropped. In the "Miscellaneous services" row, the sixth numeric column prints "3" followed by a small speck ("3·"); I read it as 3, not as a footnote marker. No footnote markers are attached to any value or row label on this page; the superscript 1 and 2 keyed by the two footnotes belong to the caption/headings on the earlier part of the table, which is outside this crop. Nothing was computed or checked for arithmetic consistency.
