Reader’s notes

p. 192. Four printed columns: stub, "Cases in which formal actions taken", and AC / UC under the spanner "Formal actions taken by type of case". The caption carries footnote marker 1 (not transcribed per instructions). Internal arithmetic check: the AC and UC columns do not add to the first column on several rows as printed (e.g. Hearings completed 6 + 104 = 110 vs 130; Decision issued after hearing 7 + 120 = 127 vs 150; By regional directors 7 + 116 = 123 vs 146; Requests for review received 0 + 16 = 16 vs 24; Board action on requests ruled upon, total 0 + 12 = 12 vs 16). Nothing was computed or corrected — all values are as printed. The right-hand rule closes the table just past the UC column and the spanner heading is centred over the AC+UC pair, so no further case-type column appears to be cut off by the crop; the shortfall is either a printing peculiarity or a column type omitted in the original. Each column is internally consistent on its own subtotals (146 + 4 = 150; 3 + 12 + 1 = 16; 1 + 0 + 1 = 2, and likewise in AC and UC). "Review of regional director's decisions" and "Regional director's decisions" are read as section lines carrying a label and no values, with the following indented lines as separate data rows; the line spacing is tight enough that "Review of regional director's decisions" / "Requests for review received" could alternatively be one wrapped label, but the indentation pattern and the parallel structure of "Regional director's decisions" over Affirmed/Modified/Reversed support the section-line reading. The scan has thin/dropped dots over many "i" characters (e.g. "Hearings", "Decision issued", "regional directors"); labels are transcribed with normal spelling. Scattered single dots after some labels are leader-dot remnants and were dropped. The footnote line shows no terminal period.
