Reader’s notes
p. 304. 12 columns: stub, Total proceedings, two "Injunction proceedings" columns, Total dispositions, six "Disposition of injunctions" columns, and Pending in district court Sept. 30, 1980. Arithmetic check: for both the "Under Sec. 10(j) Total" and "Under Sec. 10(l) Total" rows, every one of the 11 numeric columns equals the sum of its detail rows exactly, which independently confirms the digits and their column assignment. The 10(e) row is likewise internally consistent (0+10=10; 4+5+1=10). The "Total proceedings" cell of the "Under Sec. 10(e) Total" row is printed as a raised "1" followed by "10"; I read the raised 1 as the footnote marker ("In courts of appeals") and transcribed the value as 10^1. The value cannot be 110, since the Pending (0) and Filed (10) columns sum to 10. A handwritten ink stroke (a curved pen mark, apparently from the scanned original) runs down the page from about the "8(a)(1)(2)(3)(5)" row through the "8(b)(4)(A)(B)(D), 8(e)" row, crossing the Dismissed and Inactive columns. It overlaps but does not obscure the digits; stray ink also produces what look like a comma after the 0 in Dismissed for "8(b)(4)(A), 8(b)(7)(C)" and small marks beside the Inactive zeros for "8(b)(4)(A)(B), 8(e)" and "8(b)(4)(A)(B)(D), 8(e)". I have treated all of those marks as ink, not type; the column sums for Dismissed (9) and Inactive (12) confirm the readings. Abbreviation periods: at this resolution the periods in "Sec.", "Oct." and "Sept." are not individually resolvable, but a clear word gap is present in each case and the NLRB reports print these abbreviations with periods, so I have included them in "Under Sec. 10(e)/10(j)/10(l) Total" and in the two date headings. The footnote text shows no terminal period and is transcribed without one. The stub column carries no printed heading.
