753 of 753 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 263. The crop ends mid-table: the mining block is cut off at the bottom edge after "Mining and quarrying of nonmetallic minerals (except fuels)", and the table (together with its footnote texts for markers 1 and 2) continues on the following page. No footnote texts are printed on this image, so `footnotes` is empty; the raised 1 belongs to the caption (omitted) and the raised 2 is kept on the stub heading "Industrial group^2". The page is a worn 1-bit scan, so a few glyphs are degraded; all were resolved by arithmetic, which reconciles completely: every data row's C-case and all-cases sums are internally consistent, and all 16 numeric columns sum over the 22 industry rows exactly to the printed "Manufacturing" subtotal (24,411 / 19,246 / 14,205 / 4,277 / 514 / 127 / 26 / 0 / 97 / 4,789 / 3,847 / 210 / 732 / 123 / 43 / 210). The four mining rows also sum correctly row-wise. Specific cells worth flagging: (a) "Miscellaneous manufacturing industries", columns UD/AC/UC — these sit directly beneath the three-line "Measuring, analyzing..." row and the two lines of figures nearly touch, making them easy to interleave; read as UD 5, AC 2, UC 7 (Measuring is UD 1, AC 2, UC 1), which is what the column totals require. (b) "Mining and quarrying of nonmetallic minerals (except fuels)", column CA — the second digit of "49" is broken in the print; 49 is confirmed by the row's C-case sum (49+19+5+3+1+0+0 = 77). (c) "Fabricated metal products (except machinery and transportation equipment)", column RD — a small stray ink mark sits just above and left of "81"; it is a printing speck, not a footnote marker, and 81 is confirmed by the RD column total. The mining block below "Manufacturing" begins after a double rule with no printed section label, so no section row was added. Running head, page number 250 and the caption are omitted as instructed.

p. 264. The crop is a continuation page: no column headings are printed on it, so header_rows is empty. The table continues from the previous page (the agriculture/manufacturing industry groups that precede "Mining" are not in this crop), but it ends here with the "Total, all industrial groups" line. The grid has a stub plus 16 numeric columns, counted from the column rules and confirmed on every row. No footnotes are printed below the table in this crop. All numbers were cross-checked against the table's own internal structure and are fully consistent, which supports the column assignment: in every row, col 2 = sum of cols 3-9, col 10 = sum of cols 11-13, and col 1 = col 2 + col 10 + col 14 + col 15 + col 16; the "Transportation, communication, and other utilities", "Services" and "Total, all industrial groups" lines each equal the sum of their component rows in all 16 columns. The scan loses small dots (dots over "i" are missing throughout, e.g. "Mining", "Finance, insurance"), so the periods in the "U.S. Postal Service" stub are not visible on the image; it is transcribed with periods as the printed form, not as "U S Postal Service". Stray flyspecks on the scan that were not transcribed: a small mark in the stub after "Motor freight transportation and warehousing", after "Automotive repair, services, and garages" and after "Health services" (treated as leader-dot remnants); a comma-like speck between columns 14 and 15 on the "Miscellaneous repair services" row (that row's col 15 reads 0); a speck in the left margin by "Legal services"; and a small caret-like mark just below the "Services" line between columns 9 and 10.
