Reader’s notes
p. 306. Nine columns: stub plus four two-column panels (Total, By employer, By union, By both parties^2), each with Number and "Percent by type". The stub has no printed heading, so cell 0 of both header levels is empty. Periods print very faintly in this scan: every percentage appears as e.g. "100 0", "41 9", "55 7" with the decimal point lost. These are one-decimal percentages (415/990 = 41.9, 551/990 = 55.7, 394/902 = 43.7, etc., and every "Percent by type" entry in the Total panel is 100.0), so decimal points have been restored. Trailing periods on the two footnote sentences were likewise restored for the same reason; they are not visible in the image. Percent cells printed as a dash rule ("-------") are given as "": "By employer / Percent by type" and "By both parties / Percent by type" for Expedited elections, and "By both parties / Percent by type" for Board-directed elections. Each of these sits beside a printed Number of 0, which is transcribed as 0. "Regional director-directed elections" is printed on two lines and joined here. The caption marker (Fiscal Year 1979^1) is part of the title and is not carried into the grid; footnote 1 is still listed. Row totals are consistent with the printed figures throughout (e.g. 415 + 551 + 24 = 990; 902 + 24 + 64 = 990; 28 + 696 + 3 + 256 + 7 = 990), so no misprint is suspected.
