Reader’s notes

p. 298. Grid is 17 columns: stub plus eight case-type panels (All C, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), each with a "Number of cases" and a "Percent of cases closed" column. Decimal points: this scan has lost nearly every period, so the percent cells print as e.g. "100 0", "83 6", "0 8". They are transcribed with the decimal point restored ("100.0", "83.6", "0.8"), the same repair applied to the comma-space convention. This is supported arithmetically: every percent column sums to exactly 100.0 on that reading. The terminal period of the footnote was restored for the same reason. Verification: each case-type number column sums exactly to its printed total (All C 41,544; CA 28,770; CB 9,510; CC 2,001; CD 484; CE 159; CG 44; CP 576), and each percent column sums to 100.0, so no figure appears misread or misplaced and no printed total looks wrong. Blank percent cells: wherever the number of cases is 0 the matching percent cell holds a dash rule, transcribed as "" — All C and CA have no such cells; CB, CC, CE and CG each have them in the rows noted, and CP has them in "After hearing opened..." and "After Supreme Court action". Two percents differ by 0.1 from a straight rounding of the ratio (CE "Before issuance of complaint" 120/159 = 75.47, printed 75.4; CG "Before issuance of complaint" 31/44 = 70.45, printed 70.4; likewise CA 80.6 and CC 85.6). In each case the printed value is what makes the column total exactly 100.0, so these are the source's own adjustments, not misreadings; they are transcribed as printed. A small stray ink tick sits in the right margin beside the "After hearing opened..." row, outside the last column rule; it is not a footnote marker and is not transcribed. The caption's superscript 1 belongs to the omitted caption.
