  1. 1 A single case may include allegations of violation of more than one subsection of the Act. Therefore, the total of the various allegations is greater than the total number of cases.
  2. 2 Sec. 8(a)(1) is a general provision forbidding any type of employer interference with the rights of the employees guaranteed by the Act, and therefore is included in all charges of employer unfair labor practices.

0 of 76 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 281. PANELS: the page prints the table as two side-by-side panels with the same two column headings. Transcribed as one 3-column grid: all left-panel rows first (section A through the end of the sec. 8(b) subsection detail), then the right-panel rows (the 8(b) Recapitulation, B1 and B2 blocks). The column headings are given once. PERIODS / DECIMAL POINTS: this is a coarse 1-bit scan in which periods largely failed to reproduce — every percent prints as e.g. "17 9", "100 0", and sentence-ending periods are likewise invisible (the footnotes show "the Act Therefore"). The percent column is plainly one-decimal percentages, so decimal points are written (17.9, 100.0, etc.), and the same dropped periods are restored in the section labels ("A.", "B1.", "sec. 8(a)") and in the footnote sentences. No digits were altered. STUB HEADINGS: "Subsections of sec. 8(a)" and "Subsections of sec. 8(b)" are printed on their own line with an indented "Total cases" line carrying the values beneath them; each is transcribed as a valueless section row followed by the "Total cases" data row. The stub column has no printed heading. ARITHMETIC CHECK (counts): every count was verified and all internal totals are exact — the 16 sec. 8(a) combination rows sum to 29,026; the 19 sec. 8(b) combination rows sum to 12,055; each recapitulation figure (8(a)(2)=949, 8(a)(3)=17,220, 8(a)(4)=1,083, 8(a)(5)=8,754; 8(b)(1)=8,366, 8(b)(2)=1,578, 8(b)(3)=869, 8(b)(5)=45, 8(b)(6)=32) equals the sum of the rows containing it; the B1 and B2 components sum to 2,368 and 530 and their recapitulations also reconcile. Confidence in the count column is therefore very high. DOUBTFUL PERCENT CELLS (last digit): three percents disagree with the ratio implied by the verified counts, and in each the final digit is also where the scan is weakest — 8(a)(1)(3) prints 46.6 (13,496/29,026 = 46.5); 8(b)(1), left panel, prints 56.1 (6,729/12,055 = 55.8, so this may be a printed 55.8 misread or a misprint); 8(b)(4)(B) in B1 prints 73.3 (1,734/2,368 = 73.2). All three are transcribed as read on two passes; nothing was recomputed. Every other percent in the table matches its counts to the rounded tenth.

p. 282. Continuation page of Table 2 (sections C and D); the column headings are printed on this crop, so they are given. The scan has lost nearly every period on the page: the percent column prints as "100 0", "88 2", "1 6", "10 2" with a blank where the decimal point belongs, and the section lines print as "C Charges filed under sec 8(e)" / "D Charges filed under sec 8(g)". I have restored the decimal points and the sentence periods (they are dropped by the scan's thresholding, as with the spaced-comma case); the digits themselves are clear and unambiguous, and the three component percentages 88.2 + 1.6 + 10.2 sum to the printed 100.0. The crop ends immediately below the "Total cases 8(g)" row while the vertical column rules continue past the bottom edge, so section D's breakdown rows (and any footnotes under the table) are cut off and are not in this transcription.
