  1. 1 See Glossary for definitions of terms.
  2. 2 The States are grouped according to the 10 Standard Federal Administrative regions.

886 of 886 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 265. The crop shows 17 columns: the stub, "All cases", eight columns under "Unfair labor practice cases" (All C cases, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), four under "Representation cases" (All R cases, RC, RM, RD), and three single columns (UD, AC, UC), each with its own tall two-level heading ("Union deauthorization cases"/UD, "Amendment of certification cases"/AC, "Unit clarification cases"/UC). The stub heading carries a raised footnote marker 2 ("Standard Federal Regions^2"); no footnote text appears on this crop, so `footnotes` is empty — the note text presumably sits at the foot of the table's final page. The crop is cut off below the Region IV total line (the table continues with Regions V and onward, plus any grand total, on the following page/crop). Every figure was checked arithmetically and all internal relations hold exactly, which supports the column assignments: for each state row, All C cases = CA+CB+CC+CD+CE+CG+CP, All R cases = RC+RM+RD, and All cases = All C + All R + UD + AC + UC; and each Region total equals the sum of its member states in all 16 numeric columns. No misprints detected. Section/total rows ("Region I" … "Region IV") are indented in the original; the indentation is not reproduced in the stub text.

p. 266. This crop is a continuation page: no column headings are printed on it, so header_rows is empty. The grid has 17 columns (stub + 16 data columns), counted from the vertical rules; the body begins mid-table with the Region V states and runs through the grand total. Rows beginning each regional block (Illinois..., Arkansas..., etc.) are preceded on the page before by their region captions, which are not on this crop. Doubtful cells: (a) the "South Dakota" stub label is partly broken up by the leader dots in the scan and could be read as "South Dakta"; I transcribed the state name. (b) Montana, 14th data column, reads 9 — it is noticeably larger than neighbouring states' values in that column (Colorado 0, North Dakota 0, Utah 1), but 9 is what is printed. (c) Idaho, 6th data column, reads 7, larger than the surrounding pattern, but printed clearly. (d) Several narrow right-hand columns (last three) have tight spacing; values were read against the column rules. No footnote markers appear on any value, label or row in this crop; the two footnotes at the bottom of the page carry markers 1 and 2, which attach to the caption/stub heading printed on the preceding page.
