Reader’s notes

p. 308. 15 columns: stub plus 5 under "Number of polls", 5 under "Employees involved", 4 under "Valid votes cast". The header has four printed levels; "Total" (col 1), "Total eligible" (col 6), "Total" (col 11) and "Percent of total eligible" (col 12) are tall single headings repeated down the levels they span, and "In polls" occupies only level 2 over cols 7-10. Decimal points: in several percent cells the printed period is faint or dropped out in the scan, appearing as a space ("38 3", "76 1", "0 0", "100 0", "61 7" is clear). These are the AFL-CIO "Percent of total" employees cell, the Teamsters employees continued-authorization percent, and both "Other national unions" zero percents plus its 100.0. They are transcribed with decimal points, consistent with the rest of each column and with the arithmetic. Every figure checks out internally: the four affiliation rows sum to the Total row in all count columns (142, 81, 61, 9,125, 3,036, 6,089, 7,095, 3,551), and every printed percent matches its implied ratio to one decimal, so no misprints are suspected in the body. The footnote is transcribed as printed, including the typo "deauthoriaztion" for "deauthorization". A small stray ink mark sits in the right margin beside the header, outside the table rules; it is not a footnote marker or data.
