Geographic Distribution of Representation Elections Held in Cases Closed, Transition Quarter (July–September 1976)

p. 267. The crop ends mid-table: "District of Columbia" is the last fully printed row visible, and the table continues on the rest of the page (the South Atlantic division and following divisions are cut off). The stub heading carries footnote marker 1 ("Division and State ^1"), but the footnote text itself is below the crop, so `footnotes` is empty. Vermont, "Number of elections in which representation rights were won by unions / Teamsters": the cell prints as a small stray mark (speck or broken rule) immediately left of the digit, i.e. "· 0"; read as 0. The division total for New England in that column (17) is consistent with 0 here. All 16 numeric columns of the four subtotal rows shown (New England, Middle Atlantic, East North Central, West North Central) add exactly to their constituent State rows, which corroborates the column alignment and the digits throughout. Missouri prints 185 in both "Valid votes cast for unions / Teamsters" and "Valid votes cast for unions / Other national unions"; the repetition is as printed and is confirmed by the West North Central subtotals (607 and 584).

p. 268. This crop is a continuation page: no column headings are printed on it, so header_rows is empty. The caption and the earlier regional blocks (New England, Middle Atlantic, East/West North Central, and the first three South Atlantic States — Delaware, Maryland and the District of Columbia) are on the preceding page, which is why the "South Atlantic" subtotal row exceeds the sum of the six South Atlantic States shown here. The table has 16 numeric columns plus the stub; I confirmed the column assignment by checking that every other regional subtotal (East South Central, West South Central, Mountain, Pacific, Outlying areas) reproduces the sum of its member States in each of the 16 columns. Possible misprint: in the Pacific block, column 13 (the third-from-last numeric column before the last two) sums to 812 over Washington 1, Oregon 1, California 790, Alaska 0, Hawaii 20, but the printed Pacific subtotal is 811. All 15 other Pacific columns check out exactly. The one-unit gap is most likely a misprint in the printed subtotal, or a 1 that should be a 0 in the Washington or Oregon row; the figures are transcribed exactly as printed and the digits themselves are legible. In the Florida row there are two dark ink blots/scanning smudges sitting just below the figures in the first and second numeric columns, touching the rule above the "South Atlantic" line. They do not obscure Florida's own values (40 and 6), which are legible, and they are not footnote markers. No footnote markers are attached to any value, label or heading on this crop; the single footnote 1 printed under the table is keyed to the stub heading on the previous page.
