Reader’s notes

p. 252. Grid is 17 columns: stub plus eight case-type groups (All, CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CG, CP), each with a "Number of cases" and a "Percent of cases" column. Decimal points: the scan has lost or nearly lost the period in many percent cells, which print as e.g. "100 0", "85 7", "0 4", "1 0". Every percent column in this table is printed to one decimal place and the surviving periods elsewhere in the same column confirm the format, so these have been transcribed with the decimal point restored (e.g. "100.0", "85.7", "0.4", "1.0"). No digits were altered. Cells affected: all eight percent entries in the "Total number of cases closed" row; "Before issuance of complaint" (CA, CB, CC, CE); "After issuance of complaint, before opening of hearing" (CB, CD, CE); "After hearing opened..." (All, CA, CB); "After Board order adopting..." (All, CA, CB, CC); "After Board decision..." (CA, CP); "After circuit court decree..." (All, CA, CB, CC, CD); "After Supreme Court action" (All, CB). In the CA "Percent of cases" cell of the "Before issuance of complaint" row there is a small raised speck just left of "85 7", reading roughly as "°85 7". I read it as scan noise or a displaced decimal point rather than a footnote marker, since no corresponding footnote is printed; the value is transcribed as "85.7". Percent cells that are blank in the original are filled with a dash rule ("--------") and are transcribed as "". The "Number of cases" column in those same rows carries a printed 0, transcribed as "0". Column sums check out against each printed total (All 8,203; CA 5,506; CB 1,951; CC 464; CD 117; CE 28; CG 26; CP 111), which supports the column assignment of every figure. The caption's footnote marker 1 attaches to the title line and so is omitted with the caption; the footnote text itself is retained.
